The position is part of the Spectrum and E&S actuarial team which provides support for the Commercial Multi-Peril business for The Hartford's Small Commercial business segment. Our Spectrum BOP product is proprietary to The Hartford and is regarded as the market leader. Additionally, the team supports the growth and development of Small Commercial's Multi-Peril Excess and Surplus (E&S) offering. Actuarial students are part of a very large student leadership development program that includes structured rotations, networking, teambuilding and very supportive exam benefits and rewards throughout their path to fellowship.

This role reports to the Assistant Director & Actuarial Associate on the E&S Pricing team and will partner closely with the E&S organization team. The candidate will provide pricing and book management analyses for the Multi-Peril E&S book as we continue to grow this segment of the business. Additionally, the candidate could help develop and execute rate strategy for the Spectrum BOP product as resource needs arise.

The ideal candidate is results driven with a commitment to meeting deadlines. They will attend to detail and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. A strong technical background is required with strong collaboration skills and the ability to influence others.

Responsibilities include:

  • Advance our analytic and monitoring capabilities for the E&S product offering.
  • Recommend and execute pricing strategy for the E&S products.
  • Evaluate new and existing opportunities in the E&S space.
  • Partner with E&S Product Management and Underwriting to guide and implement rate strategy across all states.
  • Develop and communicate loss cost analyses for the E&S portfolio.

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree with a major in mathematics, actuarial science, or related field of study.
  • Minimum 2+ Actuarial exam preferred and pursuing toward Associate/Fellowship designation.
  • Minimum 1+ years of Property and Casualty insurance actuarial experience.
  • Knowledge of actuarial pricing techniques
  • Demonstrated technical/analytical skills; High proficiency in Excel required and experience with R/SQL preferred.
  • Effective oral and written communications skills.
  • Independently motivated; constantly looks for areas to add value.
  • Teamwork skills including ability to effectively collaborate with and influence individuals at different organizational levels.

This role will have a Hybrid work arrangement, with the expectation of working in an office 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$73,840 - $132,240

The posted salary range reflects our ability to hire at different position titles and levels depending on background and experience.
