Job Description
The Department of Developmental Services is seeking an experienced tradesperson for the Painter II position. The main function of this position is to perform painting and window/screen repairs for all of the state-operated homes and support buildings within the Central/West Region.
The duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Applies paint, varnish and similar materials in finishing interior and exterior surfaces.
- Mixes and blends paint, uses putty, plaster and other materials in preparing surface for painting and to fix windows.
- Prepare surfaces for painting by washing, dusting, sanding, etcetera.
- Must have the ability to climb and work from a scaffold.
- Candidate should be able to prepare specifications for large projects, secure quotes from contractors, and survey locations to identify homes that require painting improvements.
- Performs related work as required.

Please Note:
This is a Full-time, 40 hour position. This position is based out of Baldwinville, MA and travels throughout the Central/West Region.
Schedule: Monday through Friday: 8:00 am - 4:30 pm with Sunday and Saturday off.
Flexibility required to meet the needs of the Department.

Qualifications
First consideration will be given to those applicants that apply within the first 14 days.
MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must have at least (A) two years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in painting work, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitution below.
Substitution:
I. A diploma or certificate from a recognized trade, technical or vocational school at the high school level with a major in painting may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required experience.
Special Requirements:
Based on assignment, possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Rigger's License issued by the Department of Labor and Industries (Division of Industrial Safety) may be required.
Salary placement is determined by a combination of factors, including the candidate's years of directly related experience and education, and alignment with our internal compensation structure as set forth by the Human Resources Division's Hiring Guidelines. For all bargaining unit positions (non-management), compensation is subject to the salary provisions outlined in the applicable collective bargaining agreement and will apply to placement within the appropriate salary range.
