Job Description
Duties: The non-negotiable annual salary for this position is $52,939.90 (NAGE Unit 1, Grade 15A, Step 1)
The hours for this position are Monday- Friday 9:00 am-5:00 pm.
Responsible for coordinating administrative activities and providing office coverage and clerical support to the Superintendent's office. This will include answering telephones, maintaining accurate filing system, typing, editing, faxing, copying, and making proper distributions; Responsible for taking accurate minutes at various meetings as directed; prepare confidential correspondence, as well as memos, letters, reports, etc.; Create and edit employee charts; Back-up and assist with computer and file work; Perform various administrative duties for other senior staff members as needed; In the absence of the OSSII, prepare/enter Intakes and/or Urgent Matter Reports to include entering all pertinent documentation ensuring accuracy of information to be transferred to the database; Enter grievance and disciplinary appeals as directed; conduct CJIS background checks when requested; Responsible for all other related duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of principles and practices of office management; Excellent word processing and proofreading skills; Knowledge of Department of Correction policies and procedures; Ability to follow written and oral instructions; Ability to work independently using personal initiative; Excellent organizational skills.

This is a Civil Service position. Please note that salaries for union positions are determined according to the provisions of the respective collective bargaining agreement. Qualifications

Office Support Specialist I:
Applicants must have at least (A) two years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in administrative work experience or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below:
Substitutions:
I. An Associate's or higher degree with a major in business administration, business management or public administration may be substituted for the required experience.
II. An Associate's or higher degree with a major other than in business administration, business management or public administration may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required experience.
Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
Educational substitutions will only be permitted for a maximum of two years of the required experience.
