Job Description

These positions will be assigned to facilities throughout the Southern Sector of the Department of Correction to include

Norfolk, Bridgewater, Roslindale, Plymouth, and Walpole

Duties:

Supervises work performed by Electrical Maintenance Department. Keeps management updated of all work progress. Plans and lays out the electrical new installation work. Project target dates are met. Supervise incarcerated individual workers. Makes certain employees under supervision receive 40 hours training yearly and completes Employee Performance Review. Responds to all electrical emergencies and routine repairs. Trouble shoots electrical problems. Completes emergency repairs as soon as possible after reported. Keeps management informed of progress during emergency repairs. At least 95% of all work orders assigned to the electrical unit are completed during the fiscal year. Maintains electrical work records. Assures that all scheduled electrical equipment tests are performed. Maintains repair and supply log. Maintains emergency generator log. Prepares purchase requisitions for electrical supplies. Responsible for the safety, sanitation and organization of shop and work areas. Cleaning schedule is followed consistently. Work area, shop is clean and orderly. Ensure safety and sanitation standards are met. Prepares incarcerated individual payroll weekly. Adheres to Tool Control Policy and Procedures. Adheres to Toxic/Caustic Policy and Procedures. Performs other duties as assigned.

CANDIDATE MUST HAVE POSSESSION OF A VALID

MASSACHUSETTS JOURNEYMAN ELECTRICAL LICENSE


SELECTED CANDIDATE WILL HAVE TO SUCCESSFULLY PASS

A PSYCHOLOGICAL EVALUATION, DRUG SCREENING,

OSHA RESPIRATOR MEDICAL EVALUATION AND BACKGROUND

AND MUST ATTEND A FOUR (4) WEEK RECRUIT ACADEMY


Preferred Qualifications:

thorough knowledge of electrical codes, procedures, and safety practice. Working knowledge of other construction trades, HVAC, carpentry, and masonry. Knowledge of types and uses or handheld tools, and skills in using them. Ability to lift and carry heavy objects, climb ladders, and stand for prolonged periods of time. Manual dexterity, physical stamina, mechanical ability. Ability to maintain accurate records.

Comments:

This is a Civil Service position. Candidate must take and pass the next Civil Service Examination for this title and score must be reached in order to be considered for a permanent appointment. Please note that salaries for union positions are determined according to the provisions of the respective collective bargaining agreement. Applicants must have no felony convictions, to include any actions defined in 5 U.S.C. 301; U.S.C. 509, 510; 42 U.S.C. 15601-15609. The Massachusetts Department of Correction shall not hire anyone who may have direct contact with offenders, who has engaged in sexual abuse in a prison or other institution as defined in 42 U.S.C. 1997; or has been convicted of engaging or attempting to engage in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable to consent or refuse, or has been civilly or administratively adjudicated to have engaged in the activity described in the above paragraph. The agency shall consider any incidents of sexual harassment in determining whether to hire anyone who may have contact with offenders or residents. The DOC urges bilingual applicants to apply.

Qualifications

First consideration will be given to those applicants that apply within the first 14 days.

Minimum Entrance Requirements:

Applicants must have at least (A) two years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in industrial arts work, the major duties of which involved training or instructing, and (B) of which at least one year must have been in a supervisory capacity, or (C) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.

Substitutions:

I. A Bachelor's or higher degree with a major in industrial arts may be substituted for one year of the required (A) experience.

Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
