Job Description

Duties:

Instructor in a clothing shop, involved in clothing manufacturing operations. Responsible to assist with production planning, manufacturing engineering, product development, work assignments to incarcerated individuals, quality, safety, machine operation, security, tool control, instruction, training and profitability of the shop. Check in all incarcerated individuals and account for their presence at all times, while they are in the care of Industries. Maintain tool control as required by DOC policy and regulations. Maintain accurate accounting and inventory records within ERP TBS system, including cost control, generating and managing input for backlog and status summary reports weekly. Responsible for the computation of all estimates and product cost sheets of finished products. Plan stock and raw material needs for production and submit purchase order requisitions timely to meet production requirements. Maintains order tracking and cost monitoring. Plans stock orders to be made for anticipated production needs in conjunction with marketing projections. Maintain security and perform required security checks on a regular basis. Set schedules, perform and record preventive maintenance, service and inspections on all equipment. Submit requisitions for tooling and consumable supplies as needed for production. Assist with establishing training for shop including cross training and vendor supplied courses. Coordinate with appropriate departmental staff to ensure that EPA, DEQE, OSHA, and ACA standards are met. Responsible for progress reviews of incarcerated individuals. Responsibilities include manufacturing engineering to develop products and manufacturing procedures. May require contact with customers regarding orders, designs, and new items via marketing and sales staff. Follow all DOC and MassCor policies and procedures as outlined in power DMS. Attending all meetings as requested. Performs other duties as assigned.

SELECTED CANDIDATE WILL HAVE TO SUCCESSFULLY PASS

A PSYCHOLOGICAL EVALUATION, DRUG SCREENING,

OSHA RESPIRATOR MEDICAL EVALUATION AND BACKGROUND

AND MUST ATTEND A FOUR (4) WEEK RECRUIT ACADEMY


Preferred Qualifications:

2 years' experience in a related position and trade apprenticeship or technical training of at least two years (or equivalent of the job training and experience). Must possess a high degree of technical/business versatility. Must also be able to deal with the unique problems of training, controlling and motivating incarcerated individuals while maintaining security.

Comments:

This is a Civil Service position. Candidate must take and pass the next Civil Service Examination for this title and score must be reached in order to be considered for a permanent appointment. Please note that salaries for union positions are determined according to the provisions of the respective collective bargaining agreement. Applicants must have no felony convictions, to include any actions defined in 5 U.S.C. 301; U.S.C. 509, 510; 42 U.S.C. 15601-15609. The Massachusetts Department of Correction shall not hire anyone who may have direct contact with offenders, who has engaged in sexual abuse in a prison or other institution as defined in 42 U.S.C. 1997; or has been convicted of engaging or attempting to engage in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable to consent or refuse, or has been civilly or administratively adjudicated to have engaged in the activity described in the above paragraph. The agency shall consider any incidents of sexual harassment in determining whether to hire anyone who may have contact with offenders or residents. The DOC urges bi-lingual applicants to apply.
