Job Description
The Department of Fire Services, Hazardous Materials Emergency Response division (Hazmat) is currently seeking to fill the part-time contract position of Assistant Program Coordinator / Equipment. The Hazmat division coordinates six regional Hazmat teams which are strategically located to be able to respond anywhere in the state in less than 1 hour. The teams support local fire departments with technical information, expertise, and specialized equipment. This is a part-time contract position with no benefits.
The ideal candidate will:
• Serve in an administrative and technical capacity to support the program coordinator and oversees the successful daily operation of all meters procured by the Hazardous Materials Division.

• Advise Division Director and/or supervisor on policy, purchasing and personnel.
• Participate in procurement meetings and grant review teams.
• Oversee the upkeep, delivery, maintenance and repairs of assigned equipment.
• Maintain inventory system for assigned unit.
• Train and instruct staff, including onboarding new personnel.
• Resolve customer complaints.
• Provide technical assistance to hazardous materials response teams.
• Provide other administrative duties as may be assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
• High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
• Four years' experience as a DFS employee, a firefighter, or a MA Hazardous Materials Technician.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with use and maintenance of Hazmat meters which may include, but is not limited to a combination of Rigaku, Hazmat Elite, 908, Honeywell Meters, Jerome. Certifications preferred.
• Ability to accomplish assigned work with little to no supervision.
• Proven interpersonal skills and writing skills.
• Proven computer skills and familiarity with MS Office, email and inventory or similar database systems.
• Certification as an SCBA Technician.
