About Treasury: The mission of the Office of the State Treasurer and Receiver General of Massachusetts is to prudently manage and safeguard the state's public deposits and investments through sound business practices for the exclusive benefits of our citizens, and perform these duties with integrity, excellence, and leadership. In this role, the intern will work closely with the Policy and Legislation team as well as the Communications and the Small Business Initiative teams.
Small Business Initiative Responsibilities:
- Work with the SBI team on expanding and maintaining a database of community partner organizations by region and categories;
- Help prepare documents for external meetings with community partner organizations, including but not limited to one-pager about Treasury's Small Business Initiative, template emails to community partners;
- Prepare research for SBI team as needed;
- Aid SBI team with updating the online toolkit and weekly events and resources document;
- Assist team in reviewing and confirming any resources' contacts update and addresses that do not map successfully on MassGIS data platform;
- Note taking during meetings;
- Other duties as needed.
Policy & Legislation Responsibilities:
- Summarize pending legislation and update bill tracking spreadsheets;
- Assist in reviewing legislation and drafting new bills for the next legislative session;
- Prepare memos and briefs, summarizing research;
- Attend legislative hearings and events, when applicable;
- Assist team in daily office management, including data entry, administrative work, and various special projects.
Communications Responsibilities:
- Help draft social media content
- Assist with press releases and gathering relevant information from specific departments
- Maintain and update the media list
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Excellent oral and written communications skills;
- Strong organizational skills and work ethic;
- Ability to prioritize multiple projects simultaneously;
- Ability to handle confidential information in a responsible and sensitive manner; and
- Proficient in using graphic design & illustration software and Microsoft Office suite, including Word, Excel, SharePoint, and Teams.
- Capable of working both independently and collaboratively within teams

Work Schedule:
The internship program will allow you to work Monday through Friday (except for holidays) for a minimum of 15 hours to a maximum of 37.5 hours a work week from June to August over a 10-week timeframe. You must also be able to travel to the Boston Office location a minimum of 1-2 times a week based on your work schedule.
Compensation:
The hourly pay for high school interns will be $18/hour ($2,100/intern); for undergraduate interns $20/hour ($2,700/intern); for graduate interns $22/hour ($3,300/intern).
Please note that the exact schedule will be determined after a discussion with the direct supervisor.
