The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection, seeks applicants for the position of Contracted Student Intern - Bureau of Aire and Waste Air Quality to perform the following duties:

Bureau of Air & Waste Air Quality
MassDEP's Western Regional Office is seeking an intern to help with a variety of air quality initiatives in environmental justice areas in the region. The Department and other entities collect a large amount of air quality data from air monitoring stations and other sources. The intern will assist with the region's efforts to download, organize, and assess local air quality data and determine impacts in specific Environmental Justice communities and evaluate possible impact sources. The intern will also aid in performing a cumulative impact assessment (CIA) for Holyoke working with a MassDEP senior staff person.
The intern will download, organize, analyze, and help interpret air quality data with the use of Excel. Data will be incorporated from multiple information sources. Data trends will be displayed via the use of tables and charts. The intern will also assist senior staff to perform a cumulative impact study in Holyoke. A final report in Word and PowerPoint presentation will be developed that summarizes the results of the analysis.
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong skills in the use of the Microsoft Suite, particularly with Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
- Skills in data management and analysis.
- Ability to analyze and determine the applicability of data, to draw conclusions, and make appropriate recommendations.
- Working knowledge of statistics is also preferred.
- Ability to work independently, and in an organized manner with strong attention to detail.
