The Department of Conversation & Recreation (DCR) is steward of one of the largest state parks systems in the country. Its 450,000 acres is made up of forests, parks, greenways, historic sites and landscapes, seashores, lakes, ponds, reservoirs, and watersheds. Job Opening:

The Department of Conservation and Recreation seeks applicants for the position of Contracted Student for the Finance Department. Please submit a cover letter and resume as part of the application process.

Position Information:

Contracted Student Internship: A & F Trust Finance Intern

Location: 10 Park Plaza, Boston, MA

Start/End Date: 9/30/2024 - 12/13/2024

Salary Rate: $21.00 per hour

Weekly Hours: 15 hours, part-time

Number of Openings: 1 positions

Applications will be accepted until September 30, 2024, and interviews will be conducted on a rolling basis.

Position Summary:

The candidate will work under the supervision of the Capital Budget Director and focus on tracking and spending of DCRs Trust Accounts.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The candidate will be responsible for tracking and spending of DCRs Trust Accounts, this includes becoming familiar with each Trust representing over $32 Million in Conservation and Recreation resources. Reviewing the appropriate use of the Trust Accounts. Working under the supervision of the Capital Budget Director, recommend spending opportunities that appropriately utilize Trust resources optimizing the value of the revenue and work on developing new budget tracking templates. Responsibilities include setting up systems to track and manage each Trust Account balance. Develop spending plans and assure spending is appropriate based on specific Trust language. Additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

The candidate should have an interest in state finance. They should be knowledgeable in accounting and budgeting concepts and be confident with state budgeting cycles and processes. Success in this position requires a robust experience in finance, familiarity with relevant state and federal regulations, familiarity with state budget cycles, and reviewing financial data assets and liabilities. The candidate should have excellent PC skills within a Windows environment and should be able to demonstrate intermediate level proficiency with Microsoft Office products including Excel spreadsheets.

Other Relevant Information:

The intern will report to work at the DCR Boston Headquarters office every Monday and will work remotely a second day that will be coordinated by the intern and their supervisor and/or manager.
