The Department of Conversation & Recreation (DCR) is steward of one of the largest state parks systems in the country. Position Information:

Contracted Student Internship: Construction Inspector Intern

Location: 164 Pond Street, Stoneham, MA

Start/End Date: 09/30/2024-12/31/2024

Salary Rate: $21.00 per hour

Weekly Hours: 22.5 hours

Number of Openings: 4 positions

Position Summary: The Department of Conservation is seeking dedicated and motivated interns to assist in various engineering and maintenance projects aimed at preserving and enhancing our natural and built environments. These internships offer a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in construction engineering, facility maintenance, and infrastructure management within the realm of conservation.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Construction Engineering Support:

  • Assist in the planning and execution of construction projects related to conservation efforts, including parkways, bridges, and recreational facilities.
  • Conduct site inspections and surveys to assess project feasibility and identify potential challenges.
  • Collaborate with engineers and contractors to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.

2. Building Construction and Maintenance:

  • Assist in the construction and renovation of buildings within conservation areas, including visitor centers, restrooms, and administrative offices.
  • Monitor repairs and routine maintenance tasks to ensure the safety and functionality of structures.
  • Coordinate with contractors and vendors to procure materials and services as needed.

3. Parkways and Bridge Repair and Maintenance:

  • Participate in oversight of the repair and maintenance of parkways, bridges, and other transportation infrastructure within conservation areas.
  • Assist in the implementation of repair plans and construction projects to improve infrastructure resilience and longevity.

Qualifications:

• Currently enrolled in a degree program in civil engineering, construction management, or a related field.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.

• Basic knowledge of construction principles and techniques, with a willingness to learn and acquire new skills.

• Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.

• Valid driver's license and/or access to reliable transportation to and from DCR and non-DCR sites.
