Job Description
ThePappas Rehabilitation Hospital for Children (PRHC), operated by the Department of Public Health (DPH), is seeking a Director of Safety & Security (Compliance Officer III) to lead its safety, security, and emergency preparedness programs. This position is responsible for ensuring compliance with safety standards, regulatory requirements, and joint commission readiness, while overseeing the hospital's security and emergency management operations. This role includes program development, staff education, risk mitigation, incident investigation, and interagency coordination.
Schedule
This is a 37.5-hour per week position 8:00am-4:00pm Monday-Friday. Schedule may include occasional evening or weekend hours in response to emergencies or facility needs.

Duties and Responsibilities (This is a general summary and not all-inclusive.)
- Lead and manage the hospital's safety and emergency management programs.
- Chair theEnvironment of Care (EOC) / Emergency Management (EM) Committee, and coordinate activities to ensure compliance with Joint Commission standards.
- Develop and deliver new employee orientation, annual safety training, and just-in-time education sessions.
- Investigate safety-related incidents involving patients, staff, or visitors and coordinate follow-up actions.
- Monitor and report on safety trends, risk assessments, and compliance data to the Performance Improvement (PI) Committee and others.
- Prepare safety policies, needs assessments, emergency operations plans, and regulatory documents.
- Maintain current knowledge of federal, state, and accrediting body regulations affecting healthcare safety.
- Oversee the hospital's Emergency Management Program in collaboration with the Chief Clinical Officer, including emergency drills, response coordination, and collaboration with community partners.
- Direct the Security and Communications Departments, including campus police officers and dispatchers.
- Represent the hospital on regulatory readiness, safety, and improvement committees.
- Coordinate with external agencies including the Canton Fire Department, Department of Public Safety, and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on facility and life safety compliance.
- Authorized toimplement immediate interventions to protect campus occupants in the event of imminent safety threats.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the Director of Facilities.
Required Qualifications
- Experience in investigatory, safety compliance, or law enforcement work.
- Ability to lead, supervise, and motivate teams across disciplines.
- Strong skills in report writing, communication, data analysis, and public safety investigations.
- Knowledge of federal and state safety regulations, emergency preparedness protocols, and Joint Commission requirements.
- Ability to work independently and adapt to high-pressure or emergency situations.
- Proven ability togather and analyze data, develop safety initiatives, and coordinate emergency management activities.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse populations.
- Strong organizational and leadership abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience leading hospital-based safety, compliance, or emergency management programs.
- Prior supervisory experience in law enforcement or environmental safety.
- Working knowledge of EOC/EM regulations, utilities management, and disaster recovery operations.
- Experience coordinating with external safety and regulatory agencies.

Qualifications

Minimum Entrance Requirements: Applicants must have at least (A) four years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in investigatory, law enforcement or regulatory administration work, or (B) and equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.
Substitutions:
A Bachelor's or higher degree may be substituted for a maximum of the two years of the required experience.
Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
Salary placement is determined by a combination of factors, including the candidate's years of directly related experience and education, and alignment with our internal compensation structure as set forth by the Human Resources Division's Hiring Guidelines. For all bargaining unit positions (non-management), compensation is subject to the salary provisions outlined in the applicable collective bargaining agreement and will apply to placement within the appropriate salary range.
