Job Description

The Massachusetts Veterans Home at Chelsea (MVH) is a Veterans Administration recognized State Home and provides long-term care (and Domiciliary Care - CHE) (and Adult Day Health - HLY) for veterans. The MVH is licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH), Certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and is accredited by The Joint Commission (TJC). The MVH provides a full range of skilled nursing and ancillary services meeting the needs of our resident population.

At this time. MVH at Chelsea is seeking a Chauffer to join their team!

This position involves operating a variety of motor vehicles, such as passenger automobiles, vans, or small buses, to transport individuals or materials to designated locations. Responsibilities include conducting routine vehicle maintenance, ensuring cleanliness, maintaining accurate records of vehicle use, mileage, and expenses, and coordinating repairs when necessary. Additional duties include loading and unloading equipment, picking up and delivering mail or supplies, and handling documents.

The Chauffeur is expected to interact professionally with passengers, providing assistance when necessary, and ensuring safe and courteous transportation. In the absence of the Coordinator, the Chauffeur will also be responsible for completing trip sheets and other required documentation. When transportation tasks are not required, the Chauffeur will support other operational needs as directed.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Operates a light motor vehicle, such as a station wagon, passenger automobile, pick-up truck, or small passenger bus for transportation of persons and/or materials to designated locations.
  • Provides weekly maintenance on assigned vehicle as per Vehicle Maintenance Guidelines.
  • May contact appropriate individual for motor vehicle repair and/or maintenance.
  • Checks and cleans vehicles daily.
  • Maintains records and prepares reports on such matters as vehicle use, mileage, destinations, accidents, repairs, gas and other vehicle expenses.
  • Preforms related duties such as loading and unloading furniture equipment and supplies, picking up and delivering mail, supplies, etc., and sorting distributing and/or collating mail or other documents.
  • Interacts with all passengers professionally and politely.
  • May escort passengers from motor vehicle to destination.
  • In Coordinators' absence, responsible for filling out trip sheets.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of the state laws, rules and regulations and safety practices governing motor vehicle operation.
  • Knowledge of the types and characteristics of motor vehicles.
  • Skill in the operation of motor vehicles such as automobiles, panel trucks, vans, station wagons, etc.
  • Ability to understand and apply the laws, rules and regulations governing assigned unit activities.
  • Ability to read road maps and or GPS directions.
  • Ability to read, write and comprehend the English language.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgement.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Physical stamina and endurance.
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy objects.
  • Knowledge of the terminology, codes, standard abbreviations and standard procedures followed in operating mobile radio communication equipment.
  • Possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operator's License.
  • Considerable knowledge of traffic laws and regulations.
  • Excellent driving record.

Qualifications Acquired on Job:

  • Knowledge of laws, rules, and regulations governing assigned unit activities.
