Job Title/Job #: Utility Operator (R1058474)

Area/Location: MDC / Dayton Service Building

Utility Operator -

Duties -
1.) Operate motor vehicles, follow company radio procedures.
2.) Operate all power tools and all construction equipment to include, digging equipment, dirt moving equipment, back yard equipment necessary for utility installation as needed. Able to complete proper inspection of equipment prior to use.
3.) Perform manual labor activities safely such as flagging, barricading, signs, etc. Assist higher skill levels as needed.
4.) Develop knowledge of the electric underground distribution system. Able to identify and prepare lists of materials and equipment need to complete work.
5.) Inspection of trenches and installation of direct buried primary and secondary cable, the setting of transformers and pedestals, and the installation of service cable drops.
6.) Assist in emergency calls as qualified.
7.) Coordinate work between other departments, areas, and utilities.
8.) Direct on the job activities of two-person crew.
9.) Train and instruct others as needed.
10.) May be required to operate a (mobile) crane.
11.) Perform other similar or less skilled work.


Qualifications -
1.) High School diploma or the equivalent. Must have a valid driver's license and ability to acquire and maintain class A CDL within 6 months.
2.) Will participate in all job and safety training as required. Work assignment will be based on training that has been received.
3.) Will adhere a company and departmental policies, standards and procedures including following all applicable safety rules, policies and procedures and time reporting.
4.) Work requires moderate to heavy physical and manual skills, such as use of hand operated power tools, construction equipment and Company vehicles.
5.) Work requires close mental and visual concentration, hand/eye coordination and dexterity often in hazardous or adverse conditions for sustained periods.
6.) Works with other employees and/or customers, requiring extreme attention to hazardous conditions.
7.) Job tasks and storm related work year-round outdoors exposes employees to periods when disagreeable working conditions exists.
8.) Individuals are responsible for the care of Company equipment. Also required to exhibit care while performing work on customer 's premises.
9.) Work requires occasional customer contact as well as regular contact with other departments.
10.) Performs tasks independently, reporting progress and getting assignments frequently throughout the day. The level of supervision received and exercised decreases as the employee progresses through the job series.
Must pass a job sampling assessment.
