Position Summary:

The Structured Products Analyst provides analytics and valuation of conventional and renewable generation, energy storage, demand-side products, and a variety of custom physical and financial deal structures in power and gas markets. The role involves developing or leveraging simulation-based, closed-form, and pro forma models, performing stochastic analysis to determine ranges of potential financial outcomes, and communicating complex concepts and results to commercial teams and management.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Research, analytics, and pricing for opportunities identified by commercial groups.
  • Assist with the development of models related to structured products valuations, including Monte Carlo simulations, portfolio modeling and scenario analysis given different levels of data availability and quality.
  • Support commercial teams to evaluate opportunities that require complex optimization or stochastic modeling.
  • Provide analytical support to customers of TPS' advisory services, requests from other Tenaska business units, and a variety of ad-hoc requests.
  • Assist Trading, Energy Management and Origination teams with valuation of call/put options, heat rate call options, and tolling resources.
  • Dependable, reliable, and predictable attendance is a requirement.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • B.S. in Engineering, Finance, Economics, or Mathematics required.
  • Proficiency in Python programming is required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products is required, with an emphasis on MS Excel.
  • Understanding of SQL, data structures, programmatically accessing data via APIs, and version control.
  • Knowledge of statistics and statistical modeling techniques strongly preferred.
  • Electricity market experience preferred, including knowledge of regional electricity energy and capacity markets, transmission and ancillary service costs, environmental regulations, and market settlement.
  • Understanding of options and other derivatives is preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to communicate effectively to a variety of audiences from colleagues to customers to executive management.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-tasked environment. Must be able to coordinate efforts on multiple projects simultaneously, and properly assign priorities.
  • Detail-oriented, analytical mindset, organized workflow, and questioning attitude.
  • Proactive approach toward identifying and solving problems, and seeking challenging experiences.
  • Strong work ethic, team attitude, and willingness to work extended hours as workload requires.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

The job will require sitting in an indoor office environment, the need to visually read various written materials including, but not limited to paper documents and computer monitors. The job may also require standing, bending, walking, lifting up to 10 lbs., carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, kneeling, crouching, driving, and airline travel.

The incumbent will have the ability to use standard office equipment such as PC, printer, telephone, calculator, and copy and fax machines. Travel required to meetings in other office buildings including local and domestic.
