Job Description:

The Energy Trader position requires actively making markets in US and Canadian natural gas basis markets. The candidate will be required to manage a portfolio of natural gas exposures across multiple locations and various tenures. The role requires working on a trading floor in a fast-paced environment, collaborating with both trading and sales. The team is responsible for timely and accurate submission of data to the respective systems and market operators.

The successful candidate will have proficiency in Natural Gas infrastructure and provide traders and sales teams with timely and accurate market data. As well, they will provide commentary in a variety of areas including new trade ideas, system enhancements, and fundamental analysis.

We are looking for a proactive team player who takes ownership and accountability of projects, has strong organizational skills, and the ability to effectively manage competing priorities. Liaising with Legal, Compliance, Credit, Technology, Tax, Insurance, Regulatory Reporting and relevant external bodies may be required and is certainly suggested.

Education:

A Bachelor's degree in Economics, Accounting, Finance, Engineering or a related field from an accredited post-secondary institution

Skills:

  • Minimum of 5 years of trading experience in US natural gas basis
  • Extensive experience managing basis and fixed price risk
  • Candidates will need to have knowledge of physical markets in US and Canada.
  • Detail-oriented with a high level of integrity, honesty and professionalism
  • Excellent communication skills (Verbal and Written)
  • Strong team player; ability to act as a strong a strong partner and collaborator with the energy team, sharing market information and solving complex problems
  • Ability to act as a liaison between various parties
  • Proactive, self-starting individual with high levels of ownership. Highly motivated and ability to coach others in technical areas and problem solving. Demonstrate strong business analytical skills, problem solving abilities, initiative, and creativity
  • Aptitude for building relationships and ability to communicate complex issues to a wide array of internal and external clients with differing levels of product experience.
  • Ability to operate under pressure addressing time sensitive accountabilities in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to operate independently with sound judgement without supervision required
  • Strong proficiency in use of MS Excel, Bloomberg as well as other MS Office products

The Director Sales and Trading TDS develops the Bank's Sales, Trading, & Underwritings in New York, ensuring positions are within approved limits while maintaining and enhancing the Banks profile and market share.

Depth & Scope:

  • Liaises with the Banks other operations in New York to assist in meeting the Banks objectives
  • Strict adherence personally and at a desk level to the firms procedures
  • Fully informed on market data, economic information and key industry developments as well as regulatory standards at all times to assist in maximizing profitability through sound and well informed decisions
  • Develops and maintains contacts with market participants
  • Responsible for practicing and communicating bank policy information and strategy between your product head and relevant trading personnel
  • Understands and complies with TD Securities (USA) Policies, regulatory and compliance requirements, ensuring that transactions are fully documented and processed accurately and in a timely manner
  • Responsible for being aware of and understanding the approved Business Strategies (Strategic Business Reviews SBRs), applicable to your business, and ensuring that all of your business dealings are in alignment with these strategies
  • If you are a Trader or are in a Hybrid role, in your capacity as a Trader, you are bound by your Trading Authority Letter (TAL)
  • If you are a Trader or are in a Hybrid role, in your capacity as a Trader, you are bound by the Market Risk Policies applicable to your business and are responsible for being aware of and understanding the approved Trading Strategies (associated with the respective Market Risk Policies) applicable to your business, and ensuring that all of your trading activity is in alignment with those Strategies
  • If you are a Trader or are in a Hybrid role, in your capacity as a Trader or Trading Supervisor of an employee acting in a Trading capacity, you are responsible for ensuring that trades are entered into the trading system on a timely basis and for ensuring that positions are appropriately valued
  • If you are in a Sales or Hybrid role, in your Sales role capacity, you must obtain a current market price from an appropriate trader, either verbally or electronically, prior to entering into a binding transaction
  • Bound by Credit Risk Policies and procedures, as they apply to your business and are responsible for being aware of and understanding such policies and procedures and ensuring that trading activity is in line with those policies
  • Required to read and understand the Trading Supervision Standard
  • Required to demonstrate governance, control and risk management behaviors in alignment with TD policies and practices

Education & Experience:

  • Undergraduate degree in Business (Accounting or Finance) or Mathematics/Economics.
  • Series 7 and 63
