Department Overview

IMR is part of the broader TD Wealth Shelf Management & Investment Research (SMIR) team. SMIR provides product shelf management and strategic thought leadership for TD Wealth's distribution businesses including Financial Planning, Private Wealth Management and Direct Investing. SMIR manages product onboarding, governs decisions and long-term plans for the product shelf and platforms, as well as providing distribution oversight of TD proprietary deposit and investment products. The team blends a strong due diligence approach with forward-thinking thought leadership to help drive business results of the various TD distribution channels. Overview

The TD Wealth Investment Manager Research ("IMR") team is the TD Bank Financial Group's center of excellence and subject matter experts relating to all managed investment research. IMR is responsible and accountable for maintaining and enhancing all managed investment products on the Dealer self that are available for sale within TD Wealth along with curating and overseeing Preferred List strategies across all managed investment container types.

Job Description

The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate:

  • Awareness of the Canadian Mutual Fund industry and capital markets along with developments/challenges facing asset managers and clients.
  • Ability to take initiative and produce results either through independent work or collaborating effectively with a diverse team.
  • Aptitude to communicate and confidently interact with internal and external parties:
  • Knowledge of investment management strategies and the Canadian investment regulatory framework with a focus on mutual funds, Separately Managed Accounts and Exchange Traded Funds.
  • Ability to gather and share relevant industry information/developments and provide a fact based opinion and recommendation.

The Associate role is multi-faceted, though the primary responsibility is to assist with IMR's due diligence and shelf management accountabilities, that include active participation and documentation of investment manager due diligence reviews, preparing research materials, and assisting in the analysis and evaluation of investment managers and mandates across TD Wealth's business lines. Other key accountabilities include:

  • Lead, Organize, prepare and effectively execute periodic investment manager interviews.
  • Responsible for ongoing due diligence and oversight for managers
  • Participate in shelf due diligence and on-boarding responsibilities.
  • Responsible for completion of due diligence research reports and/or any meeting minutes along with ensuring that research materials are fulsome, up-to-date and easily accessible.
  • Develop an in-depth knowledge of existing tools that support the team's investment manager research function and assist in the development of new research tools/reports.
  • Develop an in-depth knowledge of the key, Canadian based asset managers and their strategies.
  • Prepare and execute the team's reporting accountabilities as well as collaborate on various ad-hoc projects.
  • Demonstrate a high degree of professionalism when dealing with internal and external business partners.
  • Contribute to investment analysis presentations and dashboards / scorecards.
  • Stay current of industry events and to participate in related company initiatives
  • Track new development and noteworthy market news particularly on approved firm and products
  • Assist in the development of new tools and reports
  • Assist in the preparation of updates and timely research on significant market and/or industry events, including keeping track of new developments and noteworthy market news particularly on Preferred List firms and products.
