Job Description:

TD Asset Management (TDAM), a member of TD Bank Financial Group, is a leading North American investment manager offering progressive investment solutions to both institutional and individual investors. The Institutional Asset Allocation Team manages over $9 billion for pension plans, endowments and foundations, municipalities and insurance companies across Canada. The Institutional Asset Allocation team follows a disciplined top-down and bottom-up investment process that leverages quantitative and qualitative analysis to deliver investment excellence through macro-economic and investment analysis. Utilizing a broad suite of fixed income, equities and alternative investments, the team builds and manages multi-asset solutions to help institutional clients achieve their goals. We are looking for a Portfolio Research Analyst to support the day-to-day management of institutional asset allocation mandates and support the expected growth of the business. Accountabilities will include implementation of investment strategies on both a strategic and tactical level. This includes supporting the senior PMs with asset mix analysis, fund structure analysis, as well as market research in support of tactical trades. The candidate will work directly with the senior PM team providing them support in all areas of the business, including investment management and client relationships.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Primary support for the portfolio managers responsible for institutional multi-asset mandates; including trade planning and queue management where alternatives exposures exist
  • Developing the message around investments results, outlook, and positioning for clients
  • Supporting the communications and relationship management team in the preparation of presentations
  • Documenting trade rationales
  • Assisting PM team with monitoring key economic events
  • Assisting PMs with daily monitoring of portfolio exposures and cash positions
  • Conduct underlying fund due diligence maintain ongoing engagement with underlying fund portfolio managers
  • Perform asset mix analysis to assist PMs in setting strategic asset allocation for funds and clients
  • Collaborate with all members of the Asset Management team, including, but not limited to, Portfolio Managers, Analysts, Relationship Managers, Client Portfolio Managers, Client Servicing Representatives, and Risk Management

Job Requirements :

  • This entry-level role is ideal for a candidate who possesses a passion for learning about multiple asset classes along with strong analytical and communication skills
  • The candidate should have a keen interest in investment management, global markets, and client service.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong market and quantitative background (mathematics and/or finance)
  • An individual who desires an environment that will challenge them for continual learning
  • An entrepreneurial and open mindset that seeks to grow with the team over the long-term

Candidate Profile/Core Competencies:

  • Degree in business, actuarial science, financial engineering, financial mathematics or related field
  • An interest in pursuing CFA designation
  • Proficient with MS Excel and MS Powerpoint
  • Experience with programming languages (e.g. Excel VBA, Python, SQL Server Programming, etc.)
  • Superior written and oral presentation skills; ability to present and articulate complex concepts
  • Excellent attention to detail, high level of intellectual curiosity and problem-solving skills
  • Team player with high level of self-motivation, ownership and initiative
  • Basic knowledge of alternative investments along with fixed income and equities
  • Bilingual, French-English, would be an asset
