What you will do

Negotiates favorable terms, volume discounts and long-term contracts with suppliers and prepares and processes requisitions and purchase orders for the procurement of technical equipment, custom engineered products, systems, software or components. Acquires and maintains understanding of technology trends, market forces, cost trends and supplier technology road maps. Reviews purchase order claims and contracts for conformance to company policy and discusses defects and delivery problems with suppliers and negotiates refunds.

This is a management position that contributes and achieves results through others. The role is responsible for managing subordinates in professional jobs or managing through subordinate managers / supervisors or is a leader of process that achieves results through others, whom are not direct reports. Job requires comprehensive understanding of the concepts and principles in their discipline. The requirement for a broader knowledge implies the need to understand other concepts and principles in context in order to resolve issues that have an impact beyond the area. The job has full management of a team, including management of people, defining roles and responsibilities, planning for the department's future needs and operations, counselling employees on performance and contributing to employee pay decisions or changes.

Additional responsibilities of the Sourcing Manager include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Ensure project teams adhere to strategic direction of Global Sourcing and purchasing controls requirements related to design projects

• Leverage improvements to project timelines from experience w/ key suppliers and project teams

• Preliminary influence on key project team members to inspire quicker overall deliverables for projects

• Negotiate supplier cost reductions and NRE reductions in conjunction w/ commodities teams when cost increases experienced

• Drives key efficiencies w/ suppliers and communication tools support faster & more product launches

• Identify process improvements to either supplier or Stryker processes to drive better speed to market, quality and long term delivery

• May support more projects or projects that expand across multiple business units

• Builds engaging relationship with variety of R&D engineering teams

• Builds relationships within Operations by becoming a value-added and sought after resource

• Builds relationships across Global Sourcing Group

• Lead sourcing analysis and selection process and perform cost analyses and make versus buy analyses as required

• Identify supply base risk and develop/implement mitigation plans for new products.

What you need

Qualifications and Work Experience:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, Operations Management, Supply Chain Management or similar is required for this role. A Master's Degree or Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM) is preferred, but not required.
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in strategic sourcing and supplier development

Ideal candidates will also possess the following skills/experiences:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of new product development process
  • Ability to negotiate effectively to obtain best prices and terms on products, materials, and services
  • Knowledge and application of supplier contract strategy, negotiations, contractual terms and contract administration
  • Working knowledge of ISO13485 standards and requirements preferred. Supplier Audit experience in quality system standards: FDA QSR, ISO13485 and ISO9001 preferred
  • Strong skills in leadership, influencing, communication & presentation, troubleshooting & problem solving, analysis, strategic thinking, and collaborative team building
  • Project Management experience and solid understanding of project management tools preferred
  • Manufacturing management, manufacturing engineering, buying, production planning or new product development experience is preferred
  • Medical Device, Pharmaceutical or other highly regulated industry experience is highly preferred (e.g.: aerospace, automotive)
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast paced environment
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate difficult concepts to all levels of the organization
  • Knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies & cost reduction methodologies
  • Strong judgment with the ability to make and communicate timely and sound decisions
  • International sourcing and supplier management experience preferred
