(Senior) Project Engineer (m/f/d) R&D

Role Summary:

  • Design and develop solutions for orthopedic and Trauma applications
  • Collaborate with cross functional team to lead technical aspects of projects through the new product development process
  • Review and oversee adjacent project efforts
  • Lead technical aspects of program pipeline

Responsibilities will include:

  • Independently design and implement complex concepts and systems including system architectural design, relevant design documentation, test planning and execution
  • Specialize in various technology domains and evaluates new technologies
  • Support designs and the selection of platform technologies
  • Work independently with surgeon customers in a user setting, clearly communicate design goals and incorporate feedback into designs
  • Ensure compliance with the relevant requirements in cooperation with other engineering disciplines, QA/RA/AO, etc.
  • Maintain and improve engineering methods and practices
  • Train and mentor regarding established engineering best practices, design principles, processes and tools
  • Work with core team to determine project schedules and time commitments of self and other functional project team members and be able to clearly communicate status of assignments to project management.
  • Perform holistic problem analysis
  • Design and implement solutions to address identified problems
  • Support the implementation of state-of-the-art technologies

Education, Skills & Knowledge:

  • Bachelor's degree in science, prefer Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering, prefer Masters Degree in a technical discipline
  • Product design experience in Orthopaedics in the medical device industry or equivalent (relevant internship experiences will be considered)
  • Demonstrated leadership of technical work groups
  • Experience in the function, clinical issues and performance requirements of orthopedic implants
  • Experience leading complex product development initiatives from concept through release
  • Experience in design controls and risk management within a regulated industry
  • Experience with a parametric CAD design package. Prefer ProE
  • Experience with biomechanics, numerical simulations and/or manufacturing processes
  • Open for rotation through other key new product development functions (testing, simulation, manufacturing)
  • Demonstrated understanding of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and its application
  • Demonstrated ability to influence a broad cross functional audience
  • Demonstrated ability to make decisions as needed
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and educate individuals or small groups as well as multiple project teams to ensure that best design practices and standards are met
