The SSGA Compliance team works to ensure that SSGA meets all regulatory requirements globally and is a trusted partner for clients on regulatory and compliance issues.

SSGA Market Surveillance (MS) function, established in 2015 and located both in Boston and Bangalore, monitors trading and detects and prevents market abuse/manipulation practice. The daily surveillance program includes review of both electronic and voice communication and trade surveillance. The Market Surveillance team sits within SSGA compliance and is part of the second line of the business. This role is within the SSGA MS team in Bangalore.

Key Responsibilities:

This role is to deliver on compliance responsibilities in support of the Market Surveillance Program within SSGA, including:

  • Reviewing communication and trade surveillance for assigned asset class/investment groups to identify potential market manipulation activities like, insider trading, wash trading, spoofing, layering, front running, etc.
  • Deliver quality and timely reviews of all communication and trade monitoring.
  • Maintain accurate records with clear and accurate commentaries of closure of any investigation performed.
  • Raise inquiries of suspicious red flags of violating regulatory rules or internal policies, analyze, investigate, draw conclusions and communicate monitoring results and escalation to business representatives and other constituents.
  • Keep up to date with market and industry news impacting trading behavior and apply to the review process.
  • Work cohesively as a team member to support the overall objective of the market surveillance program.
  • Be flexible and nimble to accommodate team and business requirements.

Basic Qualifications/ Skills:

  • 5-6 years of work experience, preferably in the financial industry or asset management industry, with a focus on risk and compliance
  • Strong understanding of multiple asset classes and financial products (e.g., Equity, cash , Fixed Income, and Foreign Exchange), and investment firm broker dealer compliance program experience,
  • Experience in market surveillance related activities is an advantage
  • Strong analytical thinking, problem solving, research, time management, and verbal and written communication skills, including an ability to actively communicate concerns
  • Demonstrated organizational skills (including being able to balance multiple tasks) and acute attention to detail
  • Capable of producing high quality and/or final work product and solutions in a rapidly changing environment with tight deadlines, including the skill to prioritize and allocate projects and workflow to ensure timely and accurate delivery
  • Collaborative by nature with the capability to help others achieve more
  • Ability to form and cultivate positive relationships with internal partners
  • Strong sense of ethics and personal integrity
  • A positive attitude that motivates and inspires others
  • Bachelor's Degree from a reputed Institution
  • Recognized Financial, Compliance and/or Risk Certifications are an added advantage
  • FINRA 7/24 licenses is a plus
  • Preferable to have IT skills (e.g., Excel/Macros/Visual Basic/Tableau/SQL/Python)
  • Additionally, foreign language (e.g., Japanese and Chinese) skills is a plus.
