Who we are looking for

The Financing Solutions Tax team provides tax advisory, compliance, and support services across the FS global product suite to assist in meeting key business development, client management, and risk excellence objectives. It is comprised of a team of experienced tax professionals organized around two main functions: Tax Operations and Tax Advisory.

The EMEA Operations Tax Vice President (VP) plays a vital role in the overall product tax risk management within Financing Solutions by leading the Tax Advisory function in EMEA to achieve business growth and risk excellence objectives. While regionally focused, the successful candidate will leverage their subject matter expertise in capital markets taxation to deliver both strategic and tactical advice to internal business teams and support partners globally.

The individual should have excellent communication skills, possess a positive can-do attitude, be able to work with front office teams and senior management and thrive in a fast-paced environment. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to foster collaborative relationships with internal partners across the organization are essential.

This role will report to the Global Head of Tax for Financing Solutions and will reside in London, UK.

This role can be performed in a hybrid model, where you can balance work from home and office to match your needs and role requirements.

What you will be responsible for

As Operations Tax VP, you will

  • Deliver tax advisory and assurance services across Financing Solutions product suite within the EMEA region.
  • Meet product development and business growth objectives by supporting new or incremental product initiatives and requirements. Manage external tax engagements, as necessary, to analyze and establish the current tax position, conclude the technical operational tax analysis, and contribute to the Product Development ("PD") memo and Product Oversight Committee ("POC") tax submissions. Present findings as necessary.
  • Develop, implement, and manage product tax oversight model, inclusive of policies, training, etc., to foster sound and consistent management of relevant product tax risks and achieve risk excellence objectives.
  • Provide strategic and tactical advice to the relevant businesses and support partners in evaluating the tax implications, risks, and requirements associated with both new and existing products.
  • Proactively monitor tax legislative, regulatory, and/or administrative changes and work closely with relevant stakeholders to maintain robust compliance posture amidst a changing regulatory landscape.
  • Leverage subject matter expertise and industry experience to support, strengthen, and synthesize the tax positions across the Financing Solutions product suite and ensure relevant businesses operate within acceptable risk parameters.
  • Be a go-to tax resource to front office and support personnel to ensure diverse product offerings comport with industry best practice and internal risk excellence principles globally
  • Actively participate in relevant industry associations (ISLA, ISDA, AFME, etc.) and drive industry advocacy efforts to influence tax policy across applicable markets and achieve thought leadership objectives
  • Partner with other internal support partners, including Legal, Compliance, etc. as necessary

What we value

These skills will help you succeed in this role

  • Minimum 7 to 10 years of direct experience supporting global custody and capital markets businesses
  • Demonstrable expertise in key tax-related subjects, including cross-border withholding taxes pertaining to dividend, interest, capital gains, business profits, other income or ordinary income under both domestic and international tax principles, (ii) transfer taxes (including relevant FTT and stamp duties) and (iii) other applicable direct or indirect taxes
  • Specialization in the taxation of financial products (securities lending, repurchase transactions, equity swaps, etc.)
  • Strong commercial thinker with proven track record of exercising prudent and effective tax risk management
  • Diligent work ethic and positive, can-do attitude
  • Excellent time management organization and communication skills with capacity to simplify the complex in delivering tax advice to senior business leaders and colleagues
  • Ability to prioritize various demands and effectively multi-task to serve a wide spectrum of stakeholders
