Systems Engineer IV - Network Engineer / Database / Systems

CO Salary Range: USD 88,200.00 - 156,600.00 per year

THE SCOPE

Leads in the planning, design, development, implementation, and execution of innovative application and platform solutions related to security, service delivery (WiFi, 5G, and MVNO), data center, OSS, and BSS systems supporting Charter's Wireless network. Drives identification and adoption of best-in-class operational practices and procedures across a multidimensional, high complexity back-office space for business-as-usual tasks, deployment, incident management, monitoring and detection, capacity planning, forecasting, resiliency, hardening, and DR/HA. Designs and establishes corporate operational playbooks, standard operating procedures, develops and implements platform enhancements and makes recommendations for improvements. Leads implementation of approved application and data center architecture, networking and security solutions.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Actively and consistently support all efforts to simplify and enhance the customer experience.
  • Design, deploy, manage, and maintain application and platform ecosystems with a core focus on database systems to ensure network security, high availability, fault tolerance, and scalability for mission-critical business systems.
  • Lead the design, optimization, and maintenance of relational and NoSQL databases (MySQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL, Cassandra, DynamoDB), implementing robust backup strategies, replication techniques, and disaster recovery plans.
  • Perform advanced query optimization and database tuning to enhance system performance and reduce latency.
  • Apply strong networking fundamentals (Layer 2 and Layer 3) to configure and troubleshoot VLANs, routing protocols, IP addressing, and firewall rules.
  • Administer and maintain Linux and Unix systems including patch management, system upgrades, and performance monitoring ensuring system stability and security.
  • Represent the Engineering Department working closely with Architects and Engineers in designing, modeling, and implementing new technologies.
  • Assist and lead efforts for design, redesign, and operational efficiencies as business objective and strategies evolve.
  • Document project requirements including scope, costs, schedule, testing and terms of delivery to ensure project is completed with highest level of quality on time and within budget.
  • Mentor and train other Engineering personnel in key elements of networking systems and provide technical presentations to instruct co-workers and other production services support individuals.
  • Research and identify technology opportunities and application to the business.
  • Test and validate all new hardware and software for proper configuration and performance.
  • Adhere to industry specific local, state, and federal regulations, as applicable. Knows, understands and follows company policy.
  • Document project requirements, including scope, costs, schedule, testing, and delivery terms, to ensure on-time and within-budget completion.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Required Skills/Abilities and Knowledge

  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English
  • Ability to use personal computer and software applications
  • Systems knowledge (Linux, Unix)
  • Extensive experience in designing, implementing, and managing databases specifically MySQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL, Cassandra, and DynamoDB.
  • Solid understanding of networking fundamentals including Layer 2 (VLANs, MAC addressing, switching) and Layer 3 (IP addressing, routing, subnetting, firewalls) protocols.
  • Infrastructure knowledge (OpenShift, AWS)
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • In-depth knowledge in areas of specialty for specific applications, and general knowledge of supporting or integrating applications creating platform ecosystems.
  • Basic Knowledge in TCP/IP and the OSI Model
  • Expert knowledge in using ticketing and software tools to support the current operations.
  • Expert knowledge of software designing software, such as Visio
  • Ability to perform duties in a very fast-paced environment and ability to learn new technology quickly
  • Ability to use the following office equipment telephone, copier, fax, and calculator
  • Ability to use personal computer and software applications
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • General knowledge of OSI stack and application architectures

Required Education

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Electrical Engineering, or related field or equivalent work experience.

Required Related Work Experience and Number of Years

  • Engineering work experience - 7+ yrs
  • Project management work experience - 7+ yrs

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Skills/Abilities and Knowledge

  • Knowledge of company products and services.
  • Experience with 5G, WiFi, and provisioning infrastructure (OSS, BSS).
  • Familiarity with containerized environments (Docker, Kubernetes) and cloud-based systems.
  • Strong knowledge of database security best practices including encryption, user access control, and audit logging.
  • Preferred CCNA certification or equivalent networking expertise
  • System administration certifications (Linux, Kubernetes, Docker, Splunk).
  • Infrastructure knowledge (AWS, RedHat OpenShift).
  • Experience with virtualization technologies (VMware, KVM, Hyper-V).
  • Intermediate-level experience with Terraform for infrastructure as code (IaC).
  • Automation and configuration management experience with Python and Ansible for database and infrastructure management.

The base pay for this position generally is between $88,200.00 and $156,600.00. The actual compensation offered will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. We comply with local wage minimums and also, certain positions are eligible for additional forms of other incentive-based compensation such as bonuses.
