We are looking for an experienced Senior Director of Software Engineering to lead and scale a high-performing engineering organization, driving innovation, operational excellence, and delivering impactful software solutions powering the Charter Developer API platform (BryteIQ).

You will play a pivotal role in setting the vision, fostering a culture of collaboration, and ensuring the delivery of products and systems that meet and exceed user and business expectations.

This is a unique opportunity to lead and expand a dynamic team, addressing the challenges of scaling during the rapid growth of both API traffic and the customer base.

As a senior leader, you will work cross-functionally with product, design, and business teams to ensure alignment and execute strategic initiatives. Your ability to lead with empathy, make data-driven decisions, and inspire technical excellence will be crucial to success in this role.

BE PART OF THE CONNECTION

As a SENIOR DIRECTOR on THIS team...you'll be responsible for strategic direction and management of the engineering staff and facilities, across various platforms, in various locations, with varying degrees of technology. Create, implement and enhance consistent engineering practices to ensure stable product delivery consistent with company initiatives and expectations. Support system operations, including technical services and plant maintenance. Direct project planning, capital budgeting and business plan development. Ensure a high degree of cross functional communication in line with product deployment and support.

  • Actively and consistently supports all efforts to simplify and enhance the customer experience.
  • Leads an innovative, collaborative work team to produce exceptional results delivering the customer experience.
  • Oversees specific support team such as Inside Plant operations, network engineering, advanced video engineering, circuit and telephony operations, service delivery and related equipment requirements.
  • Provides engineering support and direction for new or existing technologies and current operational initiatives.
  • Evaluates and consults with executive management regarding technical operations, strategic planning of rebuilds, network operations, dispatch, and new product development and deployment.
  • Directs quality control programs for engineering operations and consistent operational procedures. Reviews selections on bids for contracted projects, and provides recommendations as necessary.
  • Directs capital budget process, executes approved budget plan.
  • Ensures current procedures and tests are performed in accordance with Federal Communication Commission Standards.
  • Oversees the maintenance of records as required by the Federal Communications Commission and other government agencies.
  • Ensures adherence to company TQA policies, operational playbooks, and internal and external service agreements.
  • Leads and participates in succession planning.
  • Performs other duties as requested by Manager.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING TO SPECTRUM

Required Qualifications

  • Experience:
    • 9 years of management experience
    • 12 years of engineering and/or network operations experience
    • 5 years of project management experience
  • Education:
    • Master's degree in engineering or related field, or equivalent experience
  • Technical skills:
    • Advanced Knowledge of HFC, Advanced Video, IP Networks, and Telephony
    • Knowledge of all FCC compliance reports and other rules and regulations
    • Comprehensive understanding of applicable local and state rules and regulations
    • Comprehensive understanding of OSHA rules and regulations, both federal and state
    • Comprehensive understanding of HVAC and power distribution systems
  • Skills:
    • Advanced knowledge of Analog Transmission Line Theory
    • Advanced knowledge of Electronic theory
    • Advanced knowledge of Fiber Optic theory
    • Knowledge of National Electric Code and National Electric Safety Code
    • Effective leadership skills

  • Abilities:
    • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 10+ years of software engineering experience, including 5+ years of management experience leading multiple engineering teams.
  • Proven track record of leading engineering organizations to deliver large-scale, distributed systems, platforms, or consumer-facing applications.
  • Strong technical expertise in modern software development practices, API design, architecture, and cloud technologies.
  • Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies and SDLC best practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to attract, hire, and retain top engineering talent.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience working in a large-scale tech organization, with demonstrated ability to navigate complexity and drive alignment across teams.
  • Proven ability to design and implement secure authentication and authorization systems, leveraging protocols like OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect (OIDC), and JWT for identity management and access control.
  • Knowledge of networking protocols and technologies, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, HTTP/HTTPS, MQTT, and CoAP.
  • Expertise in Internet of Things (IoT) ecosystems, with familiarity in protocols such as Thread, Matter, Zigbee, and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE).
  • Knowledge of AI/ML, big data systems, or other advanced technologies.
  • Strong business acumen and the ability to balance technical excellence with business priorities.

The base pay for this position generally is between $155,600.00 and $275,800.00. The actual compensation offered will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. We comply with local wage minimums and also, certain positions are eligible for additional forms of other incentive-based compensation such as bonuses.
