DOCSIS Director of Engineering - Emerging Networks

CO Salary Range: USD 138,800.00 - 246,400.00 per year

JOB SUMMARY

As a Director of Emerging Networks, the selected candidate will be responsible for leading a team of systems engineers and architects that are responsible for innovating and architecting Charter's future networks and services. The Emerging Networks team influences Charter's 2-5 years vision in alignment with our stakeholders and partners to create and implement deployable ideas/systems that bring in new sources of revenue, simplify network operations, or cut costs with continued focus on improving customer experience.

The candidate will play a significant leadership role in the architecture and strategy of Charter's Network Evolution and leading the Next Generation DOCSIS (DOCSIS 5.0) initiative. Job responsibilities will require technical leadership in the architecture and design of the Access Networks, experience with standards bodies, working closely with the Access Architecture, Access Engineering team, Access CPE team, Operations team, Product team, vendors, and additional internal and external stakeholders.

The selected individual will provide guidance and mentorship to the team by leading the innovation work of creating architecture, design, and Proof of Concept (POC), and potential deployment of Charter's new technologies and services. The leader will support their team throughout the process.

In addition to an extensive working knowledge of DOCSIS, strong leadership capabilities, promoting teamwork and collaboration are required for this position. With a strong analytical & innovative mindset, and a proactive positive "can do" attitude, this leader will create and promote an ideal work environment for the team to perform at the highest level. The selected candidate must possess a research mindset and troubleshooting skills that will yield to a strong creative team with innovation & research skills.

The successful candidate will draw from their extensive working knowledge of DOCSIS to fulfill the requirements of the position.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Actively and consistently support all efforts to simplify and enhance the customer experience.

Develops an effective front line Leadership team and assist them with developing their direct reports as to drive a high performance culture and environment.

Leads an innovative, collaborative team to produce exceptional results delivering the customer experience.

Oversees designated operations which may include, but not limited to Headend, network engineering, advanced video engineering, construction projects, and related equipment requirements.

Provides engineering support and direction for new technologies and operational initiatives.

Evaluates and consults with all levels of leadership regarding technical operations, strategic planning of rebuilds, network operations, and new product development and deployment.

Reviews selections on bids for contracted projects, and provide recommendations as necessary.

Directs capital budget process, executes approved budget plan.

Ensures current procedures and tests are performed in accordance with Federal Communication Commission Standards.

Leads and participates in succession planning.

Performs other duties as requested.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Required Skills/Abilities and Knowledge

  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English
  • Advanced Knowledge of access networks including wireless, HFC, PON, Advanced Video, IP Networks, and Telephony
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and tasks
  • Ability to make decisions and solve problems while working under pressure
  • Ability to supervise and motivate others
  • Ability to use personal computer and software applications
  • Advanced knowledge of all FCC compliance reports and other rules and regulations
  • Comprehensive understanding of applicable local and state rules and regulations
  • Comprehensive understanding of OSHA rules and regulations, both federal and state
  • In-depth knowledge of Electronic theory
  • In-depth knowledge of Federal Communications Commission regulations

Required Education

  • Master's degree in engineering or related field, or equivalent experience

Required Related Work Experience and Number of Years

  • Management experience - 7
  • Engineering experience and/or network operations - 10
  • Project management experience - 2

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Skills/Abilities and Knowledge

  • Experience with Passive Optical Networks (PON)
  • Experience with Distributed Access Architecture (DAA)

Preferred Education

  • Industry and vendor specific certifications and training (Cisco, Juniper, Alcatel-Lucent, etc.)
  • Industry and vendor specific certifications and training (NCTI, SCTE, BCT/E)

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Exposure to moderate noise levels
  • Travel as required

The base pay for this position generally is between $138,800.00 and $246,400.00. The actual compensation offered will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. We comply with local wage minimums and also, certain positions are eligible for additional forms of other incentive-based compensation such as bonuses.
