Position Objective
The Chief Engineer is responsible for overseeing the engineering operations within the Anti-Submarine Warfare division. This role ensures that engineering projects are completed to meet or exceed technical requirements while operating within specified budgets and schedules. The Chief Engineer plays a critical role in developing innovative engineering strategies aligned with the ASW vision. Along with program execution, this includes establishing and managing Research and Development investment roadmaps that enable the implementation of the ASW strategy. The Chief Engineer will report to the Vice President of Engineering, and will interface regularly with the Sparton CEO, as well as other senior and executive leadership within the company. This position requires a broad technical knowledge required to lead multiple teams across several programs.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Manage engineering execution of ASW portfolio of programs
  • Provide direction, leadership, and mentoring to assigned engineering team members
  • Lead teams to create a high performing cross functional team focused on program execution
  • Ensure Risks and Opportunities for programs within ASW portfolio are being identified and actively managed
  • Responsible for cost, technical, and schedule performance for engineering scope for all ASW programs
  • Establish ASW programmatic and technologies roadmaps
  • Allocate and manage ASW assigned Research and Development budget
  • Create and manage technical roadmaps for ASW portfolio
  • Manage technical team ETCs throughout the project lifecycle
  • Serve as ASW technical POC to customers
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and innovations to drive advancements into program execution
  • Resolve complex technical issues and ensure adherence to the overall engineering process throughout
  • Provides technical insight to Vice President of Development Programs, Vice President of Engineering and Senior Leadership Team in internal and external program reviews and reports
  • Support Bid and proposals efforts to include customer engagement efforts
  • Uses Sparton policies and procedures to complete work assignments and assures group employees adhere to the Sparton policies and procedures
  • All other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • BS Engineering, MS preferred
  • 15+ years' experience
  • Earned Value Management (EVM) Control Account Manager (CAM) experience preferred
  • Experience working through the System Engineering Technical Review (SETR) process
  • Experience leading high performing cross functional teams
  • Experience with maritime systems preferred

Required Qualifications

  • Must possess or be able to acquire a DoD Secret Security Clearance
  • Demonstrated analytical problem solving
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Thorough understanding of the Defense acquisition and budget process
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including MS Project
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally, when required
