Applications Engineers provide dedicated and proactive product support to strategic customers on embedded software design across a broad range of Silicon Labs' wireless products with a focus on Zigbee and Matter. Communication with the customer-facing team of applications engineers in other regions, sales, and field engineers over e-mail, video and sometimes in person, is an integral part of the role. Duties will also include evaluating software, hardware, and documentation collateral for our products, and customers' needs in these areas, to determine, drive and develop new or to refine existing product collateral.

Essential Functions:
  • Providing technical management and technical product support to high-touch, high revenue customers worldwide, including code reviews, analysis & reproduction of complex networking software issues.
  • Coordinating internal communications between Applications Engineers, Development Software Engineers, Business Development personnel, Sales/Field Engineers, and Product/Project Managers to achieve solutions and results for customers.
  • Identify and drive product collateral improvements and new deliverables based on the technical needs of strategic customers.
  • Providing feedback to R&D, Business Unit and Product Management personnel on customer needs, priorities, and customer-specific use cases.


Qualifications:

Masters or bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering or equivalent, and at least 3 years of experience in embedded design, software development in wireless industry or from a similar applications engineering role.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Proactive, independent work style
  • Strong interpersonal skills: Able to form working relationships with many types of internal and external roles and serve as liaison between them
  • Strong embedded software programming skills (C and C++ language preferred)
  • Understanding of basic networking concepts (wired or wireless protocols, OSI model, etc.)
  • Ability to write high quality technical documents
  • Excellent written and verbal English skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills


Preferred Skills:
  • Experience working with embedded wireless technologies/networks, preferable Zigbee and/or Matter.
  • Experience with embedded OS environments such as FreeRTOS, Zephyr, AndroidOS or MicriumOS/µCOS.
  • Experience with Linux systems or Raspberry PI development.
  • Experience with customer-facing technical interactions
  • Experience in working in a cross-functional, distributed team
