Job Title: Software Engineering Manager

Job Summary: The Software Engineering Manager is responsible for directing software engineering tasks and participating in the design, development, and deployment of resources, tools, systems, and processes required to fulfill specific customer requirements. The ideal candidate will have over 7 years of experience in the industry, including a minimum of 3 years in a non-managerial role, with advanced technical knowledge of applications involving building operations (EBO) and HVAC systems.

  • Minimum of 3 years in a non-managerial role, with experience mentoring and leading project team members or direct management.
  • Strong leadership skills, including team leading, mentoring, and empowering others through delegation.
  • Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple demands, prioritize tasks efficiently, and allocate resources effectively.

Responsibilities:

1. Safety:
  • Complete and submit all required site and personnel safety audits for direct reports and project sites.
  • Coordinate with the Branch Safety Manager to ensure all employees attend yearly safety training.
  • Ensure compliance with Local Law 196 for all project personnel.
  • Work with the Branch Safety Manager to equip direct reports with necessary tools and PPE.

2. Management of Direct Reports:
  • Establish yearly performance goals and collaborate on short- and long-term development goals for direct reports.
  • Coach and mentor team members to foster growth and share best practices.
  • Assign mentors to employees with less than two years of experience.
  • Conduct annual and midyear performance reviews.
  • Develop training plans and ensure completion of product training, including EBO Certification.
  • Hold monthly one-on-one meetings and bi-weekly team huddles.
  • Organize quarterly team-building events.

3. Leadership Team Collaboration:
  • Participate in staff meetings and collaborate with the service leadership team to improve employee satisfaction and execution efficiency.
  • Engage in the OneVoice deep dive action planning committee.
  • Promote new software execution and commissioning ideas within the department.
  • Coordinate with the Program Manager and Construction Manager to ensure proper staffing on projects.

4. Staffing and Team Growth:
  • Participate in recruiting activities and collaborate with the service management team to identify and interview candidates.
  • Track and fill open requisitions promptly.

5. Execution Quality & Efficiency:
  • Enforce standardized nomenclature and SEBA naming conventions for software and graphics.
  • Establish a culture of quality and efficiency within the team.
  • Set expectations for software engineers regarding accountability and execution of commissioning activities.
  • Promote the utilization of GEC across projects to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Ensure proper record management using Studio 360.

6. Customer Satisfaction:
  • Schedule graphics and sequence review meetings with engineering design firms and end users.
  • Provide accurate and timely status updates to project managers and customers.
  • Facilitate in-office factory acceptance testing when applicable.
  • Solicit customer feedback during site visits and communicate insights to the leadership team.

Reporting Structure: This position typically reports to the Operations Manager.
