We are looking for an Experienced Mechanical Engineer for our Cedar Rapids, Iowa Design Center to provide technical leadership for the maintenance and optimization within the Miniature Circuit Breaker (MCB) portfolio.

Job Responsibilities

  • Create and execute verification & validation test plans in SE laboratories.
    • Responsible for engineering analysis activities by interpreting test results on Thermal, Electromagnetic, Dynamical and Structural, to insure the adequate performance, quality, and reliability of the product.
    • Compliance to ratings, product specifications and standard requirements (UL, CSA, NOM, CCC and IEC).
    • Synthesize data into technical reports to effectively convey summary and conclusions to audience (e.g. peers, management, product owners, scrum masters).
  • Apply methodical problem-solving techniques (e.g. 5 Whys) and tools (e.g. Fishbone Diagram) to solve problems.
  • Lead and execute Circuit Breaker projects to optimize our product offer. Coordinate engineering scheduling, planning, safety reviews and communicate project status to internal stakeholders.

  • Executes assigned product designs changes - drawings and BOMs (bill of materials) markups according to given technical specifications using dedicated tools (software, database, 2D and 3D CAD system).
  • Design offers from technical specifications to meet customer values expectations and quality goals with respect to supply chains constraints
  • Support Global Supply Change Manufacturing Plants in North America. Audit the manufacturing facilities of assigned product family to help ensure product compliance to applicable regulatory standards (e.g. UL, IEC, ANSI)
  • Responsible for the validation of FAIRs and Pilot Run reviews.
  • Work collaboratively on cross-functional teams to address quality, performance, or productivity objectives.
  • Lead the creation and update of Design Failure Mode Effects Analysis (xFMEA) documents to reflect product design changes.
  • May provide mentoring, instructions/assistance to other engineers or functions.
  • Circuit Breaker production line engineering qualification.

  • Qualifications
    • BS or equivalent expertise in electromechanical design in electrical distribution products. Master's in science is a plus.
    • Must have 5 to 10 years of relevant experience in electromechanical mass production industries.
    • AGILE Methodology knowledge and experience is a plus.
    • Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
    • Basic 3D CAD Modeling. (CREO preferred)
    • Intermediate experience in Product Testing and Evaluation Methods (UL/ CSA/NOM/ IEC/ CCC/ ANSI).
    • Circuit Breaker design experience is highly recommended (MCCB and ACB).
    • Knowledge of CAE (Ex, Structural, Thermal, Kinematics, etc) is a plus.
    • Knowledge of first principles of Physics and Engineering Practice.
    • Familiar with metal stamping, thermoset and thermoplastic molding processes, springs, and fasteners
    • Familiar with Design for Manufacturability and Design for Assembly techniques.
    • Training or experience in some of the following areas: Finite element analysis, Strength of materials, Dynamic / kinematic analysis (multi-bar and latching systems), Thermal and magnetic simulation, Use of statistical techniques for analyzing empirical data, Heat Transfer, tolerance analysis.
    • Travel required ~30% - Travel to NAM GSC Manufacturing Plants (USA and Mexico).

    5-10% travel to manufacturing facilities and/or customer sites.

    Willing to occasionally work non-standard hours to address critical business issues or to accommodate team members in other time zones.
