HII- Technical Solutions Division (TSD) is looking to hire a Mechanical or Welding engineer to provide technical support for welding operations for our HII Nuclear, Maritime Operations Team in Newport News, VA, supporting Newport News Shipbuilding.

Mechanical Engineers in the Maritime Operations group are a diverse group of professionals supporting a variety of departments at Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS). Our Mechanical Engineers support the construction of the most advanced ships in the world through mechanical component and system design, and directly support trades during ship manufacture and construction processes. They work every day to advance the national security interests of the United States, and develop assets that will be supporting the collective defense far into the future. After being immersed in the highly regarded HII culture and engaging in our professional development program, our Mechanical Engineers have the opportunity to transfer to one of our affiliates supporting different Department of Energy sites around the country and bring their professionalism and expertise to those locations.
What you will do:
Candidate selected for this role will be responsible for the following support:
• Qualifying and writing the welding procedures
• Reviewing and approving supplier welding procedures
• Audit and assessment of suppliers
Researches, plans, designs, verifies, validates and develops mechanical and/or electromechanical products and systems, such as metals, instruments, controls, plastics, robots, engines, machines and mechanical, resonance, hydraulic or heat transfer systems for production, transmission, measurement, and use of energy. Recommends various technology options or approaches for system, processes, facility or program improvements in terms of safety, performance, efficiency or costs. May be responsible for the transfer from R and D to manufacturing.
Minimum Qualifications
5 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 3 years relevant experience with Masters in related field.
Candidate must have successfully completed an undergraduate engineering degree from an ABET accredited program.
The selected candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a Confidential level security clearance.

BS in Welding Engineering, Welding Engineering Technology or Materials Joining, Metallurgical Engineering or Material Science Engineering.
Physical Requirements
May require working in an office, industrial, shipboard, or laboratory environment. Capable of climbing ladders and tolerating confined spaces and extreme temperature variances.
