SUMMARY OF JOB:

The 3Ph business as part of DCS LOB is facing a significant and sustainable growth. While UPS is the traditional equipment, the Battery business part of the system, being well supported but not limited to Li-Ion technologies, is now the biggest product category managed. Such continuous growth justifies the search for a R&D Chief Engineer in charge of scaling our global Battery portfolio of product development across our 3 design centers, also ensuring the technical strategy is defined and executed for the LOB per the objectives given.

DCS is handling Battery offer development across multiple Agile Squads, being an Agile at Scale model. Among them is a Li-ion Squad developing the Li-Ion solution, then UPS Product Team of Squads and a Center Of Excellence (CoE) Squad in charge of developing upstream technologies. Any other Battery system (VRLA) being spread across multiple UPS Team of Squads.

The UPS Product Team of Squads are in charge of the complete Solution Go To Market, in touch with the customers, ensuring their satisfaction and bringing the revenue into the Product Lines.

Therefore, DCS R&D Battery Chief Engineer responsibilities are:

- Ensure Marketing requirements are properly translated into formalized technical requirements enabling product or solution development

- Ensure in relationship with the CoE experts the latest technologies and chemistries are understood and already qualified, and then mastered by the LOB and the 3 design centers involved. Establish and drive with CoE a shared roadmap of battery cells or pack qualification, considering capacity management and product development quality deliverables associated

- Ensure in relationship with DCS League Leaders a DCS Battery systems roadmap is established and driven, with a high focus in developing a Sustainability and Decarbonization agenda part of it. Part of it, ensure skillset and means are properly planed across the LOB for the success of the roadmap execution

- Bring a strong digital culture of the Battery Business and collaborate across the organization to strengthen DCS position in that field, with a primarily focus on Customer Satisfaction and Services

- Upon strategy defined with the League Leaders, ensure Incubation projects are lead per agreed upon roadmap: either directly or delegated to the Team of Squads

- Build the LOB R&D technology expert network. Ensure regular documentation and knowledge sharing across the 3 design centers is happening in the field of Batteries. Then develop R&D sub-processes to embed battery developments within the Offer Lifetime Management (OLM) used for all our product and system development

- Be the business interface for any battery solution chosen as part of any offer. Ensure pre-development plan is existing and executed ahead of any hand-over to Product Squads

- Depending of the nature of investment and delegation considered, Lead, track and consolidate the R&D execution of any Battery development stream happening across any of our design centers and ensure the communication across the organization is happening. Ensure the coordination of all associated R&D development effort at a system or solution level

- Be the Single Point of Contact (SPoC) for any customer satisfaction issue reported and/or escalated and drive resolution across the organization being Quality, Global Supply Chain (GSC), VIP Excellence Chapter and the 3 design centers

- Be the Single Point of Contact (SPoC) for any technical related decision or approval and own the process management in regards of the Battery field, such as FMEA and design reviews supporting go/no go R&D decisions

- Deploy across the design centers a reliable technology and system qualification process: based on Lesson Learnt from the field starting with, with the objective of bringing our R&D from a reactive to proactive organization.

- Develop necessary design standards covering any R&D field related to DCS Battery business

- Ensure LOB interface to GSC and lead any activity ahead of any handover to Product Squad

- Ensure the tracking of the end-to-end Battery Product or Offer Life Cycle and be accountable for the products performance in the field

The DCS R&D Battery Chief Engineer performance is evaluated on 7 main activities:

- 40%:

o Project execution, Compliance execution, Offer Delivery

- 20%:

o Specific Customer Satisfaction tracking in synch with Quality department and Global Supply Chain. Ensuring a continuous and proactive design improvement.

- 20%:

o Battery Sustainability and Decarbonization strategy definition and execution.

- 10%:

o R&D expertise and thought leadership developed under DCS Innovation framework: number of internal or external publication, patents, incubation and pre-development subjects conducted in relationship to the Battery field and agreed upon strategy and Roadmap

- 10% :

o Cost to serve: Development cost and product or solution cost/ design to cost

o On-Time delivery of any Incubation, Pre-Development or Development in the field of Batteries part of DCS roadmap

o Regular communication up and down and leading required milestones and escalations whenever it makes sense: identify roadblocks and support their mitigation

More in detail, it is expected from the DCS R&D Battery Chief Engineer to:

- Understand and lead the end-to-end DCS R&D scope of the Battery Business: from technology incubation collaborating with the CoE through development up to Services and Sustainability excellence

- Ensure the Offer Lifecycle Management (OLM) is applied on his/her scope whenever it makes sense and primarily to handle the interfaces across functions

- Ensure the Battery product or solution is Tested, Documented and Validated among the different teams at play

- Overview any related development with a Quality and Customer Satisfaction culture mindset

- Develop Agile mindset and technics within the Battery Business area, focusing on Customer Satisfaction and Time To Market.

- Lead the collaboration across the organization, fitting the Go To Market strategy defined for the MVP or the target full offer

- Enable among the entire organization a culture of risk management / risk mitigation based on proven R&D plans and develop trust within the matrix organization of the entire Schneider Electric participating in the Battery business execution

- Ensure Battery Compliance, and safety, are meet at every time: you master compliance

- Ensure Data Excellence in the reporting and tracking tools used

- Support DCS 3Ph R&D VP and R&D Directors in making required R&D organisational adjustments for the success of the DCS Battery Business execution

SCOPE AND SIZE AND OTHER KEY CONSIDERATIONS

- No direct report at the time of on-boarding, animation of a Matrix Organization that can goes up to 30 people

- This assignment could also evolve in supporting the execution of other New Value Proposition incubation activities or critical UPS applications to develop

EDUCATION

- Master's degree or PhD in a related Technical field

- Major in Electrical or Mecatronic Engineering preferred

- MBA preferred

- PMP Certification expected

SKILLS

- Excellent communication, interpersonal and leadership

- Capability to grow in a multicultural environment is key

- Capability to lead and inspire various project teams by providing R&D vision and organization

EXPERIENCE

- Knowledge of battery architectures: technologies, chemistries, and integration in large electronic and power electronic systems.

- Experience in HW such as inverters, electronic (PCBA) and electrical (cables, fuse, breakers) design with IoT strong awareness.

- Experience in large scale Project Management in a tendering / Engineering To Order (ETO) model and/or a Product development model (PMP)

- Experience in working with multiple functions such as Marketing, R&D, Supply-Chain, upstream (purchasing) and downstream (logistic), Services with a proven understanding of Manufacturing technics in a high mix / low volume context

TRAVEL

- Regular inter-regional travels expected with a primary focus on the 3 Design Centers being Kolding-Denmark, Bangalore-India, Shanghai-China, and on Vendors
