Salesforce Heroku has multiple platforms that let companies build, deliver, monitor, and scale their engagement with customers globally. We are looking to hire a technology leader who can rebuild and modernize our Eventing, Metering, and Usage platform. Heroku's Eventing, Metering, and Usage team oversees usage and licensing information on the Heroku platform, manages billing processes, and assists billing support in resolving customer concerns. Our systems primarily employ Ruby. We're in the process of modernizing our internal legacy systems, emphasizing empathy, teamwork, engineering excellence, and effective communication. We're looking for someone who is intrigued by complex distributed systems, their inner workings, optimization possibilities, and methods to ensure their functionality. As a technology leader of the Heroku Eventing, Metering, and Usage team, you will collaborate closely with multiple Salesforce clouds and Heroku billing support to resolve customer issues, requiring effective communication skills and a proactive attitude.

In this role, you will lead a team of highly passionate and driven engineers that will build a highly distributed, scalable and available technology platform. This is a technology management role involving knowledge of programming and architecture patterns. In this role, you will lead a team of highly passionate and driven engineers that will build and manage highly scalable and available Platform, while partnering with stakeholder and dependent platform engineers to empower our business teams. This role will partner with Heroku product managers and architects across engineering organizations to define and deliver services. We are a geographically distributed team and looking for our next team member to join us in this fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Increase Heroku's eventing, metering and usage engineering competency across all engineering teams using a mix of mentoring, training, and hiring industry experts.
  • Partner closely with Heroku Application teams , business and billing operations operations, Salesforce cloud team, data scientists, data analysts, and visualization engineers to develop effective roadmap
  • Drive the execution and delivery of billing and usage capabilities by collaborating with many multi-functional teams, architects, product owners and engineers.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to discover and mitigate known and unknown risks.
  • Make critical decisions that attribute to the success of the product.
  • Proactive in foreseeing issues and resolving it before it happens.
  • Ensure teams have clear priorities and adequate resources
  • Empower the delivery team to self coordinate
  • Be a multiplier and have a passion for team and team members' success
  • Provide technical guidance, career development, and mentoring to team members
  • Maintain high morale and motivate the delivery team to go above and beyond
  • Vocally advocate for technical excellence and helping the teams make good decisions
  • Participate in architecture discussions and planning
  • Participate in multi-functional coordination, planning, and reviews with leads from other engineering teams
  • Maintain and nurture our team culture by interviewing and hiring only the most qualified individuals
  • Occasionally chipping in to development tasks such as coding and feature verifications to assist teams with release commitments, to gain an understanding of the deeply technical product as well as to keep your technical skill sharp
  • Ability to manage a geographically dispersed team of engineers effectively

Minimum Requirements

  • B.S/M.S. in Computer Sciences or equivalent experience in billing or financial systems, data engineering, distributes systems, acquisition and integration projects.
  • Experience working within billing or financial systems
  • 10+ years of proven track record leading software engineering teams with a distinguished track record on technically fast-paced projects
  • Experience building, delivering, and operating in AWS infrastructure.
  • Experience leading large-scale distributed systems and working with microservices and/or distributed architecture
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to be flexible, proactive, and comfortable working with minimal specifications
  • Strong background in Database concepts and schema design.
  • Experience in using test-driven frameworks, version control, conducting efficient code reviews, and deployment strategies.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to solve complex distributed system issues with a prime focus on quality.
  • Excellent communication skills to collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders, laser focus on the impact, curious, great teammate
  • Experience with short release cycles, the full software lifecycle, and experience working on a product that's been released for public consumption
  • Experience in hiring, mentoring and leading engineers
  • Working experience of software engineering best practices including coding standards, code reviews, SCM, CI, build processes, testing, and operations
  • Experience with Agile development methodologies. Scrum Master experience required
  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and product management to understand requirements, describe software product features, and technical designs

For New York-based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $204,400 to $323,400.

For Colorado-based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $185,800 to $269,500.

For Washington-based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $185,800 to $296,400.

For Washington D.C based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $204,400 to $296,400.

For Maryland based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $204,400 to $296,400.

For California-based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $204,400 to $323,400.

For Hawaii-based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $185,800 to $269,500.

Compensation offered will be determined by factors such as location, level, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Certain roles may be eligible for incentive compensation, equity, benefits.
