We are seeking a curious and motivated junior Data Scientist to join our Cloud Economics and Capacity Management (CECM) team. In this role, you will help apply data science techniques-including time series forecasting, statistical analysis, and LLM prompt engineering-to improve the performance, scalability, and cost-efficiency of Salesforce's global cloud infrastructure. This position is ideal for someone looking to gain hands-on experience working on real-world infrastructure problems. You'll collaborate with senior team members to develop predictive models, analyze infrastructure telemetry, and contribute to tools and dashboards that guide infrastructure planning and cloud cost optimization. As a member of our team, you will grow your technical skills, learn from experienced data scientists, and directly contribute to Salesforce's ability to deliver reliable, scalable services to millions of users while managing infrastructure spend effectively.
Responsibilities:
- Support Forecasting and Analytics Projects: Assist in the development, evaluation, and deployment of time series forecasting models and analytical tools that predict infrastructure demand and optimize cloud costs.
- Develop Curated Datasets and Dashboards: Help transform raw data into curated datasets and visualizations that provide actionable insights for internal partners like FinOps, Capacity Planning, and Engineering.
- Contribute to Scalable Data Science Solutions: Participate in the building and maintenance of internal tools and platforms that support repeatable, trustworthy data science workflows.
- Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Work closely with other data scientists, engineers, and business stakeholders to understand infrastructure challenges and help solve them using data.
- Learn and Grow: Build experience in cloud infrastructure, large-scale data systems, and AI/ML tooling through mentorship and hands-on project work.
Qualifications:
- A related technical degree required
- Experience with Python for data analysis and modeling
- Basic proficiency in SQL
- Foundational understanding of statistics and machine learning
- Strong problem-solving, analytical thinking, and communication skills
- Eagerness to learn and apply data science in a real-world, fast-paced environment
Preferred Skills:
- Exposure to time series forecasting techniques or machine learning models
- Familiarity with cloud infrastructure concepts (e.g., compute, storage, Kubernetes, AWS)
- Experience working with large datasets or using tools like Spark or Airflow
- Experience creating dashboards using tools like Plotly, Dash, or internal BI platforms
- Interest in infrastructure optimization, cost efficiency, or systems thinking

For California-based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $137,100 to $188,600.
Compensation offered will be determined by factors such as location, level, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Certain roles may be eligible for incentive compensation, equity, benefits.
