Reporting to the to the WCM Champion - Industrial Efficiency, the WCM Industrial Efficiency Engineer will be responsible for investigating and problem-solving plant performance issues utilizing World Class Manufacturing (WCM) techniques and principles. This position will support production teams in the rationalization, planning, scheduling, and at times execution of performance improvement activities to drive improved, sustainable plant product output in a manner consistent with CertainTeed Roofing Product Group Objectives. The WCM Industrial Efficiency Engineer will also teach, coach, and mentor in the implementation and support of WCM Industrial Efficiency Pillar routines and routes.

This position will travel across multiple Roofing sites (U.S.) to support the business level objectives and goals - up to 75% travel.

  • Responsibilities include investigating and understanding waste and efficiency related issues; developing and implementing WCM Industrial Efficiency Yellow Belt projects, managing and guiding contractors, consultants, and suppliers; identifying new opportunities and solutions with cost / benefit analysis and making recommendations to improve efficiencies.
  • Continuously evaluates workplace for safety concerns and ensures behavioral safety initiatives are performed to goal levels.
  • Provides input into planning and scheduling of projects and preparing expense & capital expenditures.
  • Work with Plant Resources (ex: Engineering, Maintenance, Production)
  • Performs root cause analysis (RCA) and implements sustainable countermeasures on losses related to production performance results and overall efficiencies.
  • Interacts with plant and corporate personnel to secure appropriate resources to plan and implement projects.
  • Works closely with Plant Resources (ex: Engineering, Maintenance, Production) to coordinate any proposed changes using the Management of Change (MOC) process.
  • Support Plant-level WCM teams with Continuous Improvement events as needed.
  • Develops and implements standard operating and maintenance procedures, and work instructions.
  • Ensures full documentation of all projects and systems to WCM, Technical Office, and/or Project Management Office (PMO) standards.
  • Develop and leverage relationships with pillar teams, especially QPC, H&S, and Reliability
  • Becomes subject matter expert of digital tools including OnBoard, Factory+, QlikView, SAP.
  • Analyzes / stratifies accurate data and loss information from records to prepare reports, statistics, etc. in support of continuous improvement of industrial efficiency.
  • Assures good housekeeping practices following 5S principles, enforces plant rules and safety regulations, and supports WCM initiatives.
  • Prepares and maintains 5S standards, leads trainings, and drives linkage from 5S to Autonomous Maintenance and efficiency improvements

Required Qualifications

What do you bring?

  • Bachelor's Degree in mechanical engineering or similar discipline or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum five (5) years of applied professional experience in a continuous process manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with P&ID, Equipment Layout Drawings, design optimization & troubleshooting.
  • Proficiency of Continuous Improvement, TPM, WCM pillar principles & methodologies.
  • Excellent problem-solving capabilities and the ability to work independently on assigned tasks.
  • Flexible and open-minded with good written and oral communication.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Understanding of waste analysis, loss deployment, flow diagrams, time optimization and value stream mapping
  • The job requires actively influencing and motivating a variety of people in changing and challenging situations. Strong influencing skills are needed as selling WCM is accomplished by gaining acceptance.
