Position Description
Job Summary
The HR Manager will be responsible for all HR functions and the delivery of a full spectrum of human resource programs and activities for the hourly and salaried employees at the Lynchburg, VA. Paper mill facility - ensuring an excellent experience for employees and internal customers.
The HR Manager has an active role in supporting the Plant Manager, Supervisors and employees, to include the areas of onboarding, performance management, compensation, benefits and HR operations, and supporting special projects.
The HR Manager role is critical in cultivating a culture of engagement, entrepreneurship, stakeholder focus and drives continuous improvement in the HR function working with the shared services teams to identify and eliminate non-value added tasks. With a mindset towards excellence this role will contribute to the plants achieving financial goals through organizational development and employee collaboration.

- Guides and coaches as needed in response to inquiries regarding HR policy, guideline issues, incentives, severance, pre-employment screening, employment verification, holidays, and vacation.
- Performs analysis including a variety of human resource metrics and benchmarking data.
- Responsible for day-to-day HR operational functions, interpretation and coordination of SG and HR policies, procedures and programs related to employment, compensation, benefits and performance management.
- Cross-functional collaboration and execution between local plant departments, central resources within the CertainTeed Gypsum businesses to identify and provided consistent and scalable cohesive standards.
Required Qualifications
- BA/BS in related field or equivalent work experience. SHRM certification a plus.
- 10+ years' progressive experience in Human Resources including:
- Staffing and Workforce Planning (short and long-term)
- Performance management
- Conflict resolution and facilitation
- Team building
- Employee Engagement
- Leadership skill development
- Employee relations and collective bargaining agreement management
- Some experience/exposure with manufacturing safety preferred
- Experience in coaching at all levels, up, down and peer.
- Manufacturing or other large industrial or distribution background required
- Proven track record of delivering business results, with a good business acumen to manage Human Resource performance and impact on business key performance indicators.
- Previous continuous improvement experience preferred - Six Sigma, Lean or WCM
- Cross functional team leadership
- Previous experience managing in a collective bargaining facility preferred.
- Good understanding of work force planning, labor market assessments and HR analytics.
