The Materials & Processes Engineering (MPE) Polymeric Materials group is seeking a Polymer Composites Material Engineer. The engineer will work in a cohesive interdisciplinary team environment and will be responsible for evaluating and developing Polymer Matrix Composite materials and processes for jet engine applications.

What You Will Do:

  • Work with internal and external customers to define requirements, provide expert consultation, plan and execute tests, analyze results, author technical reports, and create and revise material and processes specifications.
  • Provide support in the transition of material and processes to production, provide manufacturing and processing expertise to troubleshoot and solve technical problems, and provide support for continuous improvement activities.
  • The successful candidate must have broad knowledge and industrial experience, preferably in the aerospace industry, with fiber reinforced polymer matrix composite materials and manufacturing processes, including one or more of the following processes: autoclave, resin transfer molding and compression molding.
  • The successful candidate must also have experience with polymer composites lab testing methods.
  • The successful candidate must be able to function effectively in both the lab and the manufacturing environment. The successful candidate must also have exceptional technical, analytical, teaming, organizational and communication skills, as well as be adept at problem solving and have an exceptionally high level of motivation and independence.
  • 10% Travel Required

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • BS or Advanced degree in Materials Science and Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
  • 5+ years of industry experience with polymer matrix composite materials and manufacturing processes with a BS degree, or 3+ years with an advanced degree
  • Broad knowledge and industrial experience with fiber reinforced polymer matrix composite materials polymer matrix composite materials and manufacturing processes, including one or more of the following processes: autoclave, resin transfer molding, compression molding.
  • Experience with polymer matrix composites lab testing for mechanical and physical properties measurements and characterization.
  • US Citizenship and ability to obtain DOD security clearance.

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Aerospace industry experience with continuous fiber reinforced thermoset polymer matrix composite materials and manufacturing processes.
  • Advanced degree in Materials Science and Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.

What Is My Role Type: In addition to transforming the future of flight, we are also transforming how and where we work. We've introduced role types to help you understand how you will operate in our blended work environment. This role is:

  • Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance workers, as they are essential to the development of our engines.

Candidates will learn more about role type and current site status throughout the recruiting process. For onsite and hybrid roles, commuting to and from the assigned site is the employee's personal responsibility.

The salary range for this role is 82,000 USD - 164,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company's performance.

This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
