Brief Job/Department Description

The Facilities Engineer- Mechanical will be responsible for supporting facilities mechanical design, HVAC, engineering, and construction project management. This position reports to Sr. Manager Project Execution and will be responsible for completing engineering projects including mechanical building systems troubleshooting, support of building control systems, office renovations, laboratory fit-ups and manufacturing equipment installations

JOB DESCRIPTION

What you will do:

  • This role will be supporting a project from design, through the bid cycle, construction project management followed by project closeout.
  • Project estimating, project scheduling, design of heating and cooling systems, calculation of heat loads, and equipment sizing studies
  • Preparation of diagrams, sketches, construction drawings, cost estimates, bid documents and construction administration
  • Meeting with internal customers, developing continuous improvement projects, coordination studies and project management
  • Interface and coordinate projects with internal and external resources such as information technology, safety, security, internal construction trade workers, consultants, contractors, subcontractors, and suppliers.
  • The position will require travel within eastern Massachusetts, southern New Hampshire and Rhode Island with occasional opportunities to consult on projects outside of New England and internationally with the potential for travel.

Qualifications you must have

  • Minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience in building mechanical engineering.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of building mechanical systems such as; boilers, refrigeration, cooling skids, chillers, cooling towers, air handlers, fan coil units, variable air volume systems, compressed air systems, nitrogen and liquid nitrogen systems.
  • Familiarity with building electrical systems and general understanding of building construction and civil works.
  • Coordinate mechanical designs with other building design disciplines such as architectural, electrical, structural, civil, IT, and security.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience with construction project management including customer scoping meetings, budget monitoring, establishing and updating schedules, contractor coordination, commissioning, and close-out.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience writing clear technical engineering specifications, reports and operating procedures
  • Working knowledge of American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air Conditioning Engineers, Inc. (ASHRAE), Sheet Metal and Air conditioning Contractors National Association (SMCNA) and State Building Codes is required.
  • Solid computer skills including proficiency with AutoCad, REVIT, Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Microsoft Project Scheduler.

Education Experience Skills and Certifications

  • BS Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related discipline and at least eight (8) years of prior relevant experience in building, mechanical engineering or an advance degree and 5 years experience in the absence of a degree a combination of education, applicable relevant experience and/or certifications in lieu of degree may be considered

Required Security Clearance

  • This position requires the eligibility to obtain and maintain a security clearance. Except in rare circumstances, only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Work Authorization Status:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen. This position may require access to systems/tools/sites that are restricted to individuals who possess US citizenship

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Experience in Facilities Engineering
  • Experience with Design and Construction Project Management
  • Experience with manufacturing facilities
  • Experience in Building Automation Systems (BAS) and control systems such as Siemens, Johnson Controls, Schneider Electric
  • Excellent communication skills including the ability to interface and present to leadership, internal customers, information technology, security, construction trade workers and subcontractors.

Remote: Employees who are working in Remote roles will work primarily offsite (from home). An employee may be expected to travel to the site location as needed.

The salary range for this role is 96,000 USD - 200,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
