RTX Technology Research Center (RTRC) works with the business units of RTX Corporation (RTX) to develop new technologies and processes required to produce the most innovative products in the world. The Combustion and Propulsion Technology (CPT) Discipline at RTX Technology Research Center is seeking a candidate to join its Aerothermal Test Team as an Operations Engineer for its test facilities. The Aerothermal Test Team operates two large test facilities: the Jet Burner Test Stand, and the Compressor Test Facility, both of which are utilized heavily to drive innovation for the RTX business units. Integrated into these facilities is a significant amount of special laboratory equipment and systems, including process air heaters, gas compressors, fuel pumps, high pressure pneumatic regulators and valves, flow meters, gas sampling equipment, etc. The Operations Engineer will be responsible for overseeing the maintenance and repair of all CPT test facility systems and equipment. Additionally, this individual will coordinate capital improvement projects, from generating requirements documents and funding requests to contractor scheduling and oversight to ensure the deliverable's specifications are met. The Operations Engineer plays a critical role in ensuring that the test facilities are well-maintained and provide a safe, comfortable, and functional environment for the test team. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills and experience with construction processes, building codes and pressure piping code. They will be an experienced leader with a track record of success in facilities operations and project management, as well as excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills. A hands-on, mechanical or electrical inclination would be beneficial.

What You Will Do:

Plan, schedule, and prioritize maintenance tasks based on the needs of the test facility, ensuring that all work is completed in a timely and efficient manner.

Develop and implement a total preventative maintenance (TPM) program to ensure that test facility systems are kept in optimal condition and to minimize the need for emergency repairs.

Manage budgets for maintenance, repair and capital-funded work, ensuring that all projects are completed within budget constraints.

Provide guidance to maintenance contractors, internal tradespeople, and mechanical/electrical technicians to ensure that all work is performed efficiently, safely, and to the highest quality standards.

Manage Capital upgrade projects, from requirements documentation and initialization of funding requests through procurement of materials and contractor labor, ensuring that all materials and construction work meets specifications.

Provide regular reports on the status of maintenance and capital operations to Discipline and Department leadership, including progress reports, financial reports, and other relevant data.

Ensure that all maintenance work is performed in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as all RTX policies and procedures.

This is an on-site/in-person role.

Due to the nature of the experimental testing, flexible scheduling and multi-shift test support will be required.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Bachelor's Degree in mechanical engineering or a related field with a minimum of 8 years in facilities operations, including experience leading capital improvement projects and maintenance teams or a Master's degree in a relevant field with 5+ years of experience or a PhD in a relevant field with 3+ years of experience.
  • Strong communication and project management skills, with experience planning and executing large-scale maintenance, repair and capital projects with contractors and external vendors.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify issues and develop effective solutions and the ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with computerized maintenance management systems and other relevant software tools.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations related to maintenance, repair and construction work.
  • Experience creating and editing drawings in AutoCAD
  • Experience in a test facility or experimental lab environment
  • Experience with Building Codes and ASME Process and/or Power Piping Code
  • Interest in Aerospace technology a plus

The salary range for this role is 96,000 USD - 200,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
