Collins Aerospace Propeller Systems is seeking a talented Associate Director, Mechanical Design Engineering to lead and execute Aerostructures design activities. You will lead an organization of approximately 120 engineers across multiple global sites with expertise in nacelle and primary structure design. You will also support existing certified nacelle systems in both the commercial and military domain, as well actively working several major upgrade activities while preparing for the next generation nacelle system development opportunity. You will communicate and coordinate within the Collins Aerospace global engineering organization in addition to supporting our program (value stream) organization. In addition, you will be required to closely collaborate with our Operations, Quality and Digital teams to ensure products can be efficiently produced in our lean factories.

What You Will Do
- Advancing our design capabilities (tools, processes and people) to seek leaner and more efficiency to apposition us for future growth
- Provide technical direction and guidance for the design engineering team working in coordination with cross-discipline peers and program customers.
- Offer specialized technical expertise, as required, for difficult issues.
- Contribute to reviewing and negotiating customer requirements for responsible products.
- Define and communicate the overall engineering initiatives to the teams and ensure completion of associated actions.
- Accountable for all design-related engineering technical deliverables and for driving improvement in key metrics such as: OTD, FPY, program MFA scores, productivity and targeted turnback reduction.
- Drive process and organizational enhancements across the team through Continuous Improvement (CI) initiatives and engagements with a focus on reducing costs and engineering cycle time while maintaining high standards of quality.
- Ensure full implementation of an effective engineering lessons learned, read-across, root cause and corrective/preventative action processes.
- Identify, develop, and validate new standardized design methods, tools and documentation approaches ensuring full utilization across the design engineering group, particularly focused on digital and automated solutions.
- Drive robust implementation of RLPM, APQP, and Design for X (Cost, Manufacturing, Maintainability, etc.) initiatives throughout the design community.
- Assist in defining, driving, and executing the vision of Aerostructures engineering leadership as it relates to the design activities and future Aerostructures product evolution strategy.
- Provide input to the overall product development and project planning activities for current and upcoming projects, including participation in estimating resource and technical definition for future work proposals.
- Evaluate and define future design-related PLM strategies and support of implementation.
- Manage department-wide resources and budgets for the design team, including indirect and CFE spending, and ensure alignment with program and business objectives.
- Mature the organizational capabilities through department-wide targeted training, mentoring, and challenging work assignments that support the business needs.
- Focus on defining and overseeing the design talent engagement and development throughout the organization.
- Communicate and present technical data to internal and external senior level leadership
- Travel up to 10% domestically and internationally when circumstances require it

Qualifications You Must Have
- Requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 12 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 10 years of experience
- U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or granted refugee or asylee status) as defined here: https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-22/chapter-I/subchapter-M/part-120/subpart-C/section-120.62
- Experience in aircraft/airframe structural design and/or other aerostructure components
- Experience leading or managing a team of professionals, both domestically and internationally.
- Experience and/or knowledge of structural systems layout and conceptual design
- Experience in composite and/or metallic design approaches
- Design tool and standard work development experience
- Experience with 2D & 3D modeling software
- Experience with hardware and/or supporting operations environments
- Direct customer interaction and collaboration experience
- MS Office experience: Word, Excel, PowerPoint
Qualifications We Prefer
- Experience with nacelle design
- Ability to oversee delivery of high-quality output in needed timeframes
- Positive, action-oriented approach to problem solving in team environment
- Knowledge of configuration management and the engineering change process
- Understanding the process to certify a commercial airline product
- Experience with Continuous Improvement (CI) tools and methodologies: Lean, Six Sigma, ACE or CORE
- Utilize CORE (Customer Oriented Results and Excellence) operating system as a foundation to support tactical and strategic activities.
- Experience in CATIA V5, ENOVIA, and/or EPEC Teamcenter

The salary range for this role is 158,000 USD - 316,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
