Position Summary:

This is an exciting opportunity for a high potential, analytical, business savvy, well-rounded problem solver to act as the Director of the Program Management Office. This position is an integral part of the Newbuild department leadership team. This Director will rely heavily on the ability to manage cross-functional teams and prioritize projects, derive strategic insights, and communicate findings and perspectives to all levels of the organization, including senior and executive management. To be successful in this role you must be detail-oriented and self-motivated, with excellent analytic, facilitation, and communication skills. This is a highly collaborative role working with team members across a global organization.

The Director is responsible for program management oversight of the Newbuild Program Management Office which supports our Newbuild, Revitalization, Land Based Projects, Technical, Quality Management and Business Intelligence. Responsible for all these areas through designated Managers, ensuring consistency of proven processes across projects. Proactively develops strategies, leads, oversees, drives activities and direction of Managers and their assigned projects and resources. Responsibilities and projects would be approached with a cross-functional mindset and assuming primary responsibility for select projects and initiatives as directed. Responsible for building and sustaining an effective support structure for an integrated senior executive team. Independently maintains relationships with key customers, primarily Directors, Vice Presidents and Company Officers. Demonstrates expertise in a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Independently identify and address issues as they arise and bring them to the leadership attention for input or resolution as needed.
  • Supports and coordinates all activities and initiatives that have an impact department-wide such as human resource initiatives, charity initiatives, employee relations, etc.
  • Directs, mentor and provide overall direction to a team of Managers, Program Managers, Analysts, and Coordinators that are responsible for the day-to-day administrative and financial details of projects at various stages of development and execution.
  • Establishes, directs and monitors project management policies, guidelines, metrics and templates under one Program Management Office to provide a centralized framework within which a portfolio of coordinated projects is executed, integrated and communicated to ensure alignment with our corporate business objectives.
  • Leads, coaches, and advises the recommended course of action to the project team in outlining goals, objectives, milestones, responsibilities, scope and tracking routines.
  • Manages and participates in the study of operational needs and current operational performance to determine optimal working procedures and systems, and to identify areas for improvement with all projects.
  • Initiate action to prevent the re-occurrence of any process issues relating to the lifecycle of a Newbuild project.
  • Proactively interfaces with all stakeholders in a project and program for the purpose of examining project status, monitoring progress, resolving issues and ensuring mitigation to any risks.
  • Ensures efficient utilization of staff and non-labor resources with all projects.
  • Remains current with industry trends, especially as related to contemporary project management techniques as they impact corporate objectives.
  • Participates in succession planning, training, evaluation, and development for project team personnel.

  • Oversees creation and management of project budgets by Program/Project Managers for projects under their supervision.
  • Strategize with financial management on economic feasibility analysis for project options and alternatives.
  • Liaises with Program/Project Managers and financial support to ensure accurate monthly and quarterly forecasts, reporting and payments.
  • Responsible for defining optimization opportunities to manage expenses.

Qualifications, Knowledge & Skills:
  • Bachelors or Masters Degree with a concentration in Industrial Engineering, Project Management, or related field.
  • 9-12 years experience with 5-8 years experience leading a team.
  • Strong leadership skills and proven experience in leading and developing a large team of technical professionals.
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills a must. Clear and precise communication at all levels of the organization essential.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, strength in communicating in a multicultural environment with all levels of employees and management.
  • Excellent organizational and presentation skills.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Solid understanding of accounting rules for expense and capital activities.
  • Detail oriented with excellent analytical, financial and spreadsheet modeling skills.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Software: Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, and Project required.
  • Internal Candidates: Knowledge of CAR process: budget, approval, reconciliation, and reporting.
  • 20% travel required.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals, business periodicals, financial reports, legal documents, and government regulations.
  • Ability to clearly and effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
