As a Senior data center engineer, Edge Deployment, you'll help us scale our Edge Data Center and hardware infrastructure at a time of incredible growth for our business. At Roblox, you'll have boundless opportunities to shape the future of the Imagination Platform™ and demonstrate your passion for delivering thoughtful solutions in front of a global audience. If you know what it takes to build and operate hardware infrastructure that can sustain millions of concurrent players year-round and you take play as seriously as we do, you'll fit right into our highly experienced and ever-expanding engineering team. You will report to the Technical Lead of Edge Operations. This will be a hybrid position based in Ashburn, VA and or Chicago, IL

You will:

  • Develop and maintain the Edge Data Center and hardware infrastructure to meet the large-scale and real-time requirements of our Imagination Platform™ to ensure our community has an incredible experience anywhere in the world. This includes all aspects of the server, network infrastructure, power, and environmental monitoring.
  • Identify and solve critical problems and prevent them from re-occurring via root cause analysis and giving recommendations to improve automation.
  • Create, influence, and improve the development platform, infrastructure, standards (Runbooks, SOPs, MOPs), and methods to ensure the goal of scalability and high availability can be achieved.
  • Participate in the on-call rotation for our critical infrastructure.
  • Build and implement Edge/POP sites around the world including low voltage cabling, creating BOMs, vendor management.
  • Travel: International and Domestic travel may be required 25% of the time and up to 40% of time depending on needs of the business.
  • Collaborate closely with our internal customers to address their needs and concerns, while also shaping future iterations of data center and network designs to ensure smooth integration of new infrastructure and support scalability.

You have:

  • You have at least 4+ years of experience working in large-scale data center infrastructure environments, with significant expertise in installing, monitoring, and maintaining server and network equipment, including deploying new servers and networks.
  • In-depth knowledge of data center environments, servers, and network equipment.
  • You have experience collaborating with smart hands teams, colocation facilities, and managed service providers.
  • Validated experience completing multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • You have installed various equipment that commonly resides in the data center environment and are able to lift 75 pounds occasionally.

For roles that are based at our data center in Elk Grove Village, IL: The starting base pay for this position is as shown below. The actual base pay is dependent upon a variety of job-related factors such as professional background, training, work experience, location, business needs and market demand. Therefore, in some circumstances, the actual salary could fall outside of this expected range. This pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.  All full-time employees are also eligible for equity compensation and for benefits.

Annual Salary Range
$135,620$166,130 USD

Roles that are based in our San Mateo, CA Headquarters are in-office Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with optional in-office on Monday and Friday (unless otherwise noted).
