Business Unit Introduction:

Rakuten is seeking a Strategic Business Operations Intern to join the SBO team. This team drives strategic and operational excellence by working closely with cross-functional teams and diverse business units in the Americas and European.

SUMMARY:

You will work closely with the executive leadership team on projects that are of strategic importance to the company. Your efforts will directly impact the overall strategy and success of Rakuten in the Americas and European regions. You will collaborate in a high-energy, startup environment on complex business problems that are top-of-mind for the leadership team, as well as the broader set of executive stakeholders. You possess a unique blend of business insight, business strategy experience, big-picture thinking, influencing skills, and the ability to collaborate with a diverse set of talent within Rakuten.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Key member of Strategic Business Operations Team, responsible for supporting leadership in the development of regional business plans, day-to-day operations, special projects, market analysis, and strategic planning.
  • Work closely with senior executives to assist them in understanding complex business issues.
  • Use Powerpoint / Beautiful.Ai to illustrate and simplify business topics for discussion and presentation to C-Suite; use clear verbal and written presentation skills to do so.
  • Act as a project manager on critical projects across different functions in the Americas and European region ranging from finance to legal to HR and beyond.
  • Able to research trends and benchmark to provide insights and thought leadership on critical topics of interest to the COO.
  • Assist and help drive increased productivity through process improvements, Kaizen Initiatives etc.
  • Support weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting cadence on behalf of COO and CEO of Rakuten International, with very specific formats, deadlines, etc.

  • Outstanding communication skills; capable of taking a concept and telling the story

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • MBA (in progress)
  • 3-5 Years of experience working for a tech company, management consulting / investment banking or strategy experience in a leading consumer company
  • Expert PowerPoint User
  • Advanced Excel User
  • Specific experience in the areas of strategic planning, operations, or project management ideal
