JOB SUMMARY:
Primarily responsible for managing the day-to-day workflow of underwriting support for a Region by providing guidance for a team of Underwriters and Sr. Underwriters, monitoring underwritten loans for consistency, accuracy and timeliness.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage, coach, and training Underwriters and Sr. Underwriters in the integrity of the data inputted into the Loan Origination System (LOS) and all associated Automated Underwriting systems (AUS). Manage and maintain consistency of the Underwriting philosophy, as well as managing the quality and timeliness/production of the Underwriting staff to ensure that Underwriting decisions are occurring in required timeframes
- Respond to escalated questions and track trends of escalations for training, systems, or process improvement. Work with Underwriters and other company management on rejected and problem loans to find ways to improve the loan to meet qualifying conditions or suggesting alternatives to obtain loan approval. Propose and lead teams to address credit risk procedural changes.
- Assist with development of SOPs and Training materials in line with credit risk training for Underwriters and production personnel.
- Responsible for credit quality and ensuring that underwriting philosophy and credit policies are adhered to.
- Communication and training of underwriting and product changes to entire Operations department.
- Participation in projects to change processes and systems.
- Motivate and manage the performance of underwriters.

SCOPE:
- Contributes through guiding others at the Area level.
- Coordinates and directs business partners.
- No supervisory responsibility.
REQUIRED EDUCATION
Minimum High School diploma or equivalent. Bachelor's degree preferred.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
- Related Functional Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years
- Time in position: Minimum of 3-5 years of senior level underwriting experience and at least 1 year of management background.
- Experience working in customer-focused environment.
- Excellent communication, leadership, negotiation and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to speak effectively in public and deliver clear, consistent messages.
- Experience training and mentoring.
- Knowledge of department standard operating procedures and mortgage lending standards, which would include Fair Lending practices, and federal and state laws regulating mortgage origination.
- Must be proficient with MS Office.
Salary Range: $105,000 to $125,000 annually depending upon experience.
This position is also eligible for an annual bonus based on the successful completion of defined performance objectives.
In addition to up to 9 paid company holidays per year, employees are eligible for up to 6 days of sick pay. Moreover, eligible employees with less than 10 years of service can accrue up to 17 PTO days per year (and up to 22 PTO days per year upon 10 or more years of service).
