The typical starting salary range for this role is determined by a number of factors including skills, experience, education, certifications and location. The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.
Description
Manages Surety National Accounts and Subcontract Default Insurance (SDI) Underwriting Support and administrative activities (e.g. internal/external customer service, and various bond/policy processing activities) to ensure a balanced, profitable, and quality book of business. Develops and monitors operating and quality standards for unit. Maintains compliance with regulatory requirements and ensures policies and procedures are consistent and quality/risk controls are in place and monitored. Manages staff including hiring, training/development for various levels of staff, and evaluation/adjustment of performance. Ensures staff develops and maintains business relationships with Surety / SDI underwriting, internal service partners, and external clients.

The candidate can work from anywhere in the U.S. and will need to report to a Liberty Mutual office twice a week, provided there is an office nearby.
Responsibilities
- Manages and develops a high performing team of Underwriting Assistants and Bond Support Specialists who may handle Policy Issuance, Bond Registration, Contract/Commercial Bond Requests, and Work-in-Progress entry, in addition to the prioritization of work, assigning tasks, and monitoring progress and development of direct reports, which may span across multiple offices.
- May manage Supervisors and/or national or centralized programs .
- Develops and monitors operating, quality and performance standards for unit.
- Supports operational functions (internal/external customer service, and reporting analysis).
- Ensures team activities are compliant with regulatory requirements as well as internal policies.
- Drives consistency throughout the organization by ensuring processes, workflows, and policies are followed.
- Provides input to streamline process and develop workflow efficiencies for process improvement, including coordination and implementation with other stakeholders.
- Oversees design and management of team quality assurance process, metrics and measures of performance.
- Develops and maintains operational dashboard of progress toward performance and quality goals, key performance indicators, and service level agreements.)
- Hires, trains, and manages functions including mid-year and annual review, regular 1:1, and coaching activities.
- Develops individual performance objectives and development plans and ensures alignment with business objectives.
- Appraises and evaluates team and individual performance/adjustment of performance and makes compensation recommendations.
- Forecasts staffing needs for remote and on-site support throughout assigned region.
- In collaboration with Finance, ensures the producer premium receivables as well as processes are followed, accurate, and completed within the expected service level agreement.
- Provides technical support and assists in resolution of problems in coordination with Distribution Applications Specialists.
- Projects and tracks budgets for department and provides support with Business Continuity Planning as needed.
- Prepares and analyzes reports for management as requested.
- May partner with functional unit leaders and managers to review services and provide results, which are derived from a variety of sources and formats.
- May assist in the coordination of office space and consolidation within assigned territories as needed, which might involve working with corporate real estate on space planning and/or office moves.
- Participates/leads special projects as assigned.
- Bachelor`s degree or equivalent experience preferred
- 5 years prior management experience overseeing administrative staff preferred as well as progressive growth within Surety
- Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely with excellent verbal and written communication skills, work independently, apply sound judgment, and manage multiple priorities effectively
- Ability to assign, direct, and evaluate the work of staff members, preferably in multiple offices, resulting in a high performing team
- Advanced skills in interpreting and applying policies and procedures
- Proven problem solving and organizational skills
- Willingness to travel up to 25%
