The Individual Life Insurance Law Department is seeking a talented, highly motivated, experienced attorney with deep insurance product development knowledge to join its life product team in a senior role. This team provides legal support to areas responsible for traditional and variable life insurance product development, maintenance and marketing, and underwriting.
This is currently a Hybrid position requiring on-site presence two days a week in either our Newark, NJ or Hartford, CT office.

What you can expect:
• Serving in a leading role in providing legal advice in connection with all Individual Life Insurance new and existing business initiatives, including our core life insurance business and Simplified Solutions platform. Taking a lead role in coordinating and overseeing legal work of Individual Life Insurance product attorneys. Working closely with the business within a team environment from product concept to product launch.
• Providing counsel to the Individual Life Insurance Marketing team. Assisting the business on all matters related to innovative marketing concepts, including the development of advertising, sales and producer training materials.
• Interfacing regularly with Individual Life Insurance's Compliance and Risk Management functions. Collaborating with these departments in assessing risks and developing monitoring procedures.
• Working closely with colleagues within the Law Department on issues impacting life insurance product distribution.
• Representing Prudential in industry committees and groups that evaluate legal issues that impact the Individual Life Insurance business.
• Engaging and managing outside counsel, as needed.
• Performing other assignments and projects, as assigned.
What you'll need:
• You must be admitted to practice law in New Jersey or another U.S. state. If you do not have a plenary license to practice law in New Jersey, you must apply for a New Jersey In-House Counsel license within 60 days of employment
• A minimum 15 years of relevant law firm, regulatory or in-house law department experience.
• Significant knowledge of individual insurance products, state insurance laws as well as federal securities laws related to certain products.
• Significant knowledge of insurance operations and relevant legal and contractual requirements, and experience providing legal advice in connection with underwriting, customer and regulator inquiries.
• The ability to work independently and help develop less experienced legal staff.
• Strong work-ethic, with an ability to work independently and reliably under tight timeframes in a fast-paced environment.
• Superior analytical skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work and collaborate cross-functionally with various levels within Prudential, including senior management and technical experts, to deliver actionable, solution-oriented advice.
• An ability to write and communicate clearly and simply in providing focused, technically-sound, practical legal solutions.
• Intellectual curiosity and an appetite for learning new legal disciplines outside your current areas of experience.
• Courage and confidence to speak up, challenge and advocate for a point of view respectfully.
• An ability to engage in intelligent risk taking and show excellent judgment in comfortably supporting clear, rational, and timely decisions in the best interests of Prudential and our customers despite ambiguity, complexity, and an ever-evolving regulatory environment.
• Strong project and time management skills, with the ability to balance multiple projects simultaneously and assess and prioritize work requirements.
What we offer you:
Prudential is required by state specific laws to include the salary range for this role when hiring a resident in applicable locations. The salary range for this role is from $248,500.00 to $336,200.00. Specific pricing for the role may vary within the above range based on many factors including geographic location, candidate experience, and skills.
