About Us

The Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) is an independent nonprofit organization authorized by Congress in 2010. Its mission is to fund research that will provide patients, their caregivers and clinicians with the evidence-based information needed to make better-informed healthcare decisions. PCORI is committed to continually seeking input from a broad range of stakeholders to guide its work.

Position Summary

PCORI's Engagement Award (EA) Program funds projects that build communities prepared to participate in patient-centered comparative clinical effectiveness research (CER). To support internal learning about the funded projects, the EA Program seeks an intern to conduct a qualitative analysis of evaluation reporting tools completed by EA projects.

EA projects evaluate their work and at the end of the project submit an evaluation reporting tool to PCORI. The EA Program aims to better understand the content of these evaluation reporting tools through a thematic analysis of a sub-set of evaluation reporting tools. The intern will lead a thematic analysis with support from their EA supervisor, including refining the learning question(s), developing and refining codes and the codebook, interpreting and synthesizing the learnings, and making suggestions for improved data collection/use. Data will be coded using a qualitative analysis software or platform (e.g., Atlas.ti, Nvivo, Dedoose). Learnings and suggestions will be presented in a summary report and presentation to the EA team.

The Engagement Award department is seeking an intern who will have the opportunity to:
  • Develop initial codes and codebook and identify emerging themes. Based on feedback EA team members, revise codes, themes and codebook and learning questions if relevant.
  • Draft summary learnings and suggestions for report; develop draft presentation.
  • Present key themes and suggestions for improvements to the evaluation reporting tool to the Engagement Award team.

Pay Range and Employment Status:
