Develop measuring techniques and programs from scratch to analyze dimensions and tolerances of intricate parts, fabrications, subassemblies, assemblies and tooling. Direct and train other inspectors in the operation of measurement equipment such as coordinate measurement machines, Dr. Hoflar and MAAG gear inspection equipment; etc.
WORKING PROCEDURE AND/OR RESPONSIBILITY ASSIGNED:
THE FOLLOWING ARE THE USUAL MAJOR JOB DUTIES BUT THIS JOB DESCRIPTION DOES NOT PRECLUDE THE PERFORMANCE OF OTHER DUTIES BY THE INCUMBENT, NOR THE QUESTION BEING RAISED ON THE PROPER RATE OF PAY FOR THE ASSIGNMENT.
In addition to performing the duties of the Inspector "A", performs the following:
Program, setup, and use measurement instruments such as coordinate measurement machines Using PC-DMIS, Dr. Hoflar and MAAG Gear inspection equipment, etc.
Be able to create coordinate measuring machine programs and have them released as a proven out program. A proven program is defined as a new routine that captures all inspection characteristics requested in the routing. All proven programs are released with the signature of the programmer, and QC management or QC Engineer. Ensuring the data provided is correct and meets all requirements per GD&T.
2. Develop, revise, and maintain computer programs and mathematical formulae required to verify the geometric conformance of various parts; fabrications, subassemblies, assemblies and tooling to established customer and NG specifications and standards.
3. Select computer software programs to be used for inspecting tooling and production parts and make changes to the software when necessary. Recommend software/hardware purchases which will optimize inspection setups and operations.
4. Troubleshoot inspection equipment, electro-mechanical failures .and perform preventative maintenance as necessary. Coordinate in-plant equipment service and repairs with service contracted vendors when required.
5. Instruct and advise inspectors in the proper setup and operation of measurement equipment such as Coordinate Measurement Machine, Dr. Hoflar and MAAG Gear inspection equipment, etc.
6. Perform similar or lower classified work as required.
This is a union position.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
High school, plus (2) years of college with courses in Mathematics, Physics, Computer Programming, Manufacturing Technology including gear theory, or the recognized equivalent.
* Minimum six years related experience as an Inspector "A" or equivalent.
* Must have working knowledge of gears, castings, forgings, welding, brazing, machining, machine tool capabilities, electronic measuring and recording equipment, and basic programming skills, and be familiar with properties of various metals.
* US Citizenship is required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
4 year degree from an accredit college.
* A minimum of 10 years experience in CMM Offline Programming and A-Inspector / surface plate inspector.
