You will be working as an intern on the NXT SPACE Design Innovation Team within the Nike Explore Team (NXT).

NXT SPACE explores and ignites big ideas that create significant change, harnessing the power of the collective to better serve our athletes and consumers.

Our work includes exploratory platforms and strategic products. Formally known as Nike's Innovation Kitchen, it is one of the worlds' foremost laboratories in which anything is possible. A playground where a celebrated lineage cohort of designers, engineers, risk takers, and visionaries draft the next generation of technology infused products, experiences, and methods of make.

You'll apply your advancing Design skills and entrepreneurial approach to create future forward, original innovative designs and concepts, including but not limited to footwear, apparel and experiences that reflect and push the boundaries of Nike's design philosophy and standards. Helping to unite the world through sport to create a healthy planet, active communities and to help elevate the athlete
experience.

What you'll experience:

If this is you, you'll be collaborating with cross-functional teams in a matrix environment, Your workload will be focused on a summer project breif, along with existing programs that you will partner with the team to explore and evolve collaboratively.

You'll champion and influence new ways of critical thinking and visioning to create and initiate research for product Innovation and design concepts. Applying performance and cultural insights, consumer/athlete* and Nike Sports Research Lab (NSRL data), to influence growth opportunities and competitive advantages in the marketplace.

You'll effectively communicate and present concepts to various internal and external audiences, sharing your vision, building momentum, gathering feedback, influencing, and gaining alignment.

As a key member of the Design Innovation team, you'll help strengthen and shape the collective as a positive force of creativity and curiosity by engaging and uplifting your Design Innovation peers. Along with your multi-disciplinary design teammates, you will collaborate with concept creators, engineers, and developers.

You'll build relationships working with a variety of cross-functional teams across the organization, including Advanced Manufacturing, Sustainability, Nike Sports Research Lab (NSRL), Digital, Merchandising, and the Business.

You'll report to a Senior Design Innovation Lead, in NXT SPACE, who reports to the Senior Design Director of NXT SPACE.

What you will bring:

Qualifications:

  • Enrolled in a Master's program with an expected graduation date of December 2025 or Spring 2026


  • Background in Industrial Design, Product Design, Fashion Design, Materials Design, or a related field.


  • 1-3 years work experience preferred


  • Resume submission (PDF) required


  • Well-curated portfolio, variety of projects/mediums, demonstrating your process, showing ability to work through physical prototyping and experimentation required

Skills:

  • Ability to build an individual diverse portfolio of exploration work, prioritize workload and manage short term and long-range projects


  • Ability to work independently, with minimal guidance, embrace ambiguity, ensuring key dates and deliverables are met


  • Strong teammate, successful collaborator, ability to inspire others, understands that failure is part of the creative innovation process


  • Ability to ideate, generate, develop, and implement designs and product details including form, style, construction, material, color, trim, etc. considering performance, fit and feel


  • Advancing knowledge of product construction concepts, including but not limited to; pattern engineering, model making, part drawings, materials, manufacturing processes, sustainability concepts


  • Proficiency in Illustrator, Photoshop, Miro and Keynote other visualization and 3d design tools are a plus
