Job Description Summary

JOB SUMMARY: Acts as a project lead on the initiation, development, and maintenance of products/programs with respect to design, profitability and growth. Implements processes related to the design, pricing, underwriting, distribution, claims and other processes associated with developing/enhancing/managing products/programs. Promotes and provides high level input on key initiatives to address product/program strategy and profitability objectives. Supports assigned state/regional/departmental, and operations functions as required. Assists in the coordination and implementation of new product/program and product changes and assists in communicating product direction throughout the organization.

Job Description

Reports To: Director or Officer. This is an individual contributor role but may have direct reports based on organizational structure. May also be responsible for virtual/project teams.

Key Responsibilities:  

1. Leads in the development and maintenance, including features/capabilities of products/programs from beginning to end.

2. Assist in providing support and leadership to all functional areas of the company to promote product/program design and management.

3. Provides support and guidance to all functional areas of the company related to product/program design and management of the product/program.  Provides recommendations and feedback on pricing point decisions, design features and associated processes.

4. Identifies opportunities for improvement and makes recommendations to management.

5. Provides high level, strategic input on key initiatives addressing product/program strategy and profitability objectives. Assists in developing key initiatives on product/program strategy and profitability. 

6. Proactively identifies product/program opportunities in present markets or new markets and coordinates them within the organization's product development area. Relates these opportunities to corporate goals meeting company/ regional/departmental needs and issues. Reacts appropriately to market conditions.

7. Works with Managers/Directors in all underwriting divisions and other departments such as Actuarial and Claims to anticipate company/regional/departmental needs and issues. Acts as a technical resource to Managers/Directors in all underwriting divisions and other departments, such as Actuarial and Claims.

8. Maintains expert proficiency in pricing, product/program design, legal compliance, data analysis, product/program distribution, marketing, claims, and statistical reporting and insurance financials.

9. Identifies and evaluates business opportunities. Leads the analysis of market information on competitors.  Leads new development and implementation initiatives. Leads the roll out of new initiatives/products/programs/enhancements.

10. Provides management with assessments of financial results and recommendations to improve future product/program performance.

Assist in communicating product/program strategy throughout the organization.

11. Develops and delivers new product/program training as appropriate.

Assists in sponsoring/evaluating new tools and technology to enhance product/program performance or internal efficiencies.

12. Proactively seeks out opportunities to interact with other business partners while developing cross-functional knowledge.

13. Performs other duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Education:  Undergraduate studies. Bachelor’s Degree or graduate studies preferred. Insurance licenses or industry designations (i.e. CPCU, ARM, ASLI, AU, INS, etc.) based on organizational need, preferred.  

Experience:  Six years experience in personal/commercial lines insurance including underwriting, marketing, product management or comparable area.  Previous product management experience preferred.  Excess & Surplus /Specialty Lines insurance experience desirable.

Knowledge:  Competent knowledge of analytical tools, core business functions, underwriting policies and best practices, performance measurement techniques, systems, competitors, customers and regulatory agencies required.  Knowledge of related pricing, marketing, insurance models/contracts, and financial analysis necessary.  Must have knowledge of training theory.  Knowledge of marketing techniques and approaches.  Evidence of increasing responsibility and exposure to research, analysis and development as well as standards and practices for the selection, evaluation and pricing of product/program.

Skills:  Demonstrated responsible decision making.  Skilled in the use of analytic tools.  Ability to drive for results, deal with ambiguity, communicate well and to understand strategic objectives.  High level of oral and written communication skills necessary to consult on communication planning and to direct development of marketing materials.  Ability to prioritize and manage long-term projects, as well as quick turn around assignments.  Strong interpersonal skills Ability to work in committees and act as project lead or participant in all aspects of product/program design and maintenance.

JOB CONDITIONS:

Overtime Eligibility:  Not Eligible (Exempt).

Working Conditions: Normal office environment.  Extended and non-standard work hours based on project and customer deliverables.
