Position Summary

OCIO & MSFO Alternative Investment Solutions, a unit within the Global Investment Office, is uniquely situated between two fast-growing, strategically important client channels within the division (OCIO and MSFO). Morgan Stanley OCIO and MSFO are industry-leading programs that partner with Financial Advisors to offer both discretionary and non-discretionary portfolio management services to institutional and private clients (e.g., Defined Benefit plans, Endowments, Foundations, Ultra-High Net-Worth, Family Offices, etc.). OCIO & MSFO Alternative Investment Solutions provides customized portfolio solutions, across alternative and liquid investments and is responsible for making recommendations on portfolio construction, asset allocation, and manager selection across a broad spectrum of asset classes. This investment role will focus on alternative investments including private equity, private credit, real assets, and hedge funds.

Core Functions:
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for liquid and private market alternative investments (private equity, private credit, real assets, and hedge funds) and assist in building alternative allocations within client portfolios; illustrating domain expertise in portfolio construction and asset allocation
  • Engage in prospective and existing client interactions; partner with client segment teams and financial advisors to win new client mandates
  • Participate in OCIO and MSFO's regularly occurring meetings to discuss asset allocation/portfolio management, manager selection, and forward pipeline opportunities; responsibilities will include preparing updated market views and investment analyses, participating in portfolio reviews, and presenting potential portfolio ideas/changes
  • Track and regularly report liquid alternatives and private markets fund performance and exposures for OCIO/MSFO client allocations and other high priority Morgan Stanley alternative investment focused products
  • Aid in the sourcing of alternative investment ideas and manager due diligence for institutional caliber alternatives offerings (screening, taking part in manager calls/meetings, etc.)
  • Actively participate in meetings with external investment managers
  • Help drive business initiatives and liaise with key stakeholders across partner groups and control functions
  • Work on strategic projects to further develop alternatives capabilities within the division as well as to enhance OCIO and MSFO capabilities and value-proposition
  • Automate data workflows, build financial models and custom analytical tools

Experience and Skills

  • 5+ years of investment-related experience in alternative investments, preferably at a Fund of Funds, family office, or in an investment-related function at an alternative asset management firm
  • Firm understanding of global capital markets, asset management industry, and the alternative investment landscape
  • Experience and knowledge of the processes and workflow of managing and analyzing a co-mingled alternatives Fund of Funds portfolio is a plus
  • Understanding of portfolio management concepts including asset allocation, modern portfolio theory, portfolio construction, manager selection, risk management, and performance analysis
  • Advanced skills in Excel (read, write, interpret, and audit VBA); experience with macros, Factset, Bloomberg, API
  • Proactive & hard working with strong professional accountability
  • Exemplary verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical and/or quantitative skills
  • Desire and willingness to learn and collaborate within a close-knit team
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Must be very detail-oriented with an ability to multi-task
  • Undergraduate degree is required
  • Graduate degree, CFA, and other professional designations are preferred
  • FINRA Series 7, SIE and 66 (or 63 and 65) licenses required, or willingness to obtain within 180 days of hire (additional licensing may be required)

Expected base pay rates for the role will be between 140,000 and 200,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs
