The Morgan Stanley Institutional Securities Group operates globally in all major locations and is an industry leader in Equities Sales and Trading. The Institutional Equities Division (IED) is a global leader in Sales and Trading across all product types as well as Prime Brokerage services.

In an increasingly competitive and complex regulatory environment, there is a need for a strong and dedicated Business Manager in India. This role will directly report to the India IED Head of Sales & Trading. This function is to Oversee the daily operations of the Institutional Equity Division, ensuring efficient and effective execution of business strategies, furthering our market leading position and doing so in a risk focused and controlled manner.

This job description outlines the multifaceted role of a Business Manager in the Institutional Equity Division, emphasizing strategic leadership, financial stewardship, operational excellence, and team management.

The candidate will need to work with sales and trading personnel and internal stakeholders to ensure that the business is prosecuted in a manner that is well-controlled and in line with the Firms risk appetite.

Responsibilities will include:
  • Collaborate with senior management to set comprehensive goals for performance and growth and lead the division in achieving these objectives.
  • Partner with Internal stakeholders to streamline business processes to enhance productivity and efficiency.
  • Implement best practices in operational management to minimize costs and optimize resource utilization.
  • Management of governance processes for new business initiatives,
  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and innovative work environment.
  • Adapt business strategies in response to market trends and changes in the regulatory landscape.
  • Leverage technology to improve operational processes and customer interactions.
  • Ensure that the region's operations align with broader corporate social responsibility goals.
  • Engaging with IED personnel on ad hoc queries
  • Risk Governance ownership for the region's business and participation in other Firm wide governance,
  • Ownership of business unit operational risk monitoring and remediation processes which entails actively identifying and remediating operational risks in business lifecycle and front to back processes.

The preferred candidate will have Project management experience/ practical risk management experience in financial services with specific experience in dealing with equity products across Asian markets / India.

The qualified candidate must have:
  • Minimum 6 years of working experience in banks or financial institutions
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to influence others not in direct span of control.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Be able to find balance between commerciality and prudent risk management.
  • Ability to interact with stakeholders of varying seniority in different groups.
  • Experience having worked in a fast-paced, delivery focused environment.
  • Highly self-motivated, with a desire to help improve processes and work together in a team.
  • Strong work ethic.

Technical skills preferred:
  • Technical IED product knowledge.
  • Institutional Securities experience in control/risk functions.
  • Front to back knowledge of key sales and trading process flows.
  • Operational Risk / Internal Audit / Regulatory background and/or experience.
  • Project management experience - track record of delivery on projects, commitments.
  • Strong Microsoft skills.
